1993 Hot Wheels Splittin’ Image 25th Anniversary Guide

1993 Hot Wheels 25th Anniversary Splittin' Image in original package

The 1993 Hot Wheels Splittin’ Image 25th Anniversary is a reissue of the earlier divided-body design. It is not Splittin’ Image II, and a redline-style wheel does not make it an original 1960s specimen.

Identify item 5708

The Splittin’ Image retool catalog records numerous anniversary colors with redline-style wheels. Orange, green, red, gold, lavender, purple, aqua and light blue are among them. Color collecting is possible without inventing a production count or rarity ranking.

Names and packages to distinguish
1993 25th Anniversary Splittin’ Image reissue, item 5708
1994 Vintage Series Separate cataloged color group under the same item number
Splittin’ Image II Different 1990s casting, not another color of this reissue

Why package evidence matters to a color collection

Ask for a readable image of the front and back of the card as well as the car's underside. Item 5708 appears in more than one series year, so a loose car's color and number do not settle every package distinction. Preserve the seller's photographs with your record rather than assigning a year from an unrelated listing.

Use the Splittin’ Image II identification guide when the body does not match this earlier design. Similar naming is not evidence of shared tooling, wheels or original specifications.

Inspect both sides of the split design

A top-down photograph is especially useful here. Examine the two body sections, their glazing and the narrow center areas for scratches, distortion or adhesive. Ask for low side views so a bent axle or uneven stance does not disappear behind the body.

Compare all four wheels and the base fasteners. A replacement canopy, swapped wheels or repaired body should be disclosed. Do not assume that a clean repaint is a factory color simply because the anniversary range offered many finishes.

Original early car or commemorative reissue?

State which you want before evaluating an offer. A reissue can be an appealing way to display the design, but it belongs in a different group from a verified early original. Request detailed underside and wheel photographs whenever a seller's claim depends on age.

For a carded reissue, inspect the blister seam, hanger and corners. Keep vehicle condition separate from package condition. For a loose model, choose the degree of wear you are comfortable displaying instead of treating “anniversary” as a condition grade.

Compare prices without a blanket premium

Use dated completed sales of the same release, finish, originality and packaging format, including delivery charges. An old catalog price or an unsold expensive listing is not a current appraisal. No investment return or guaranteed scarcity is implied by this guide.

Splittin’ Image anniversary questions

Is Splittin’ Image II another anniversary color?

No. It is a separate casting.

Do redline-style wheels prove early-original status?

No. The anniversary reissue also uses that wheel appearance.

Make the Hot Wheels Splittin’ Image 25th Anniversary Guide record reproducible

For this article, keep Splittin’ Image and Splittin’ Image II separate by matching the divided body, anniversary card and base name. Use a fixed photo order—front or package, both sides, wheels and underside—so two examples can be compared without relying on seller shorthand.

Record repainting and wheel swaps as modifications, not factory variations. Record uncertainty directly rather than converting a partial match into a factory, rarity or value claim.
