Choosing a Display Case for a 1:200 Airbus Model

Choose a display case using the complete aircraft-on-stand dimensions and the case's usable interior space. A label such as suitable for 1:200 aircraft is not enough: an A321 and an A350-1000 have very different footprints despite sharing the same scale.

The safest buying sequence is to choose the aircraft and intended pose, establish its full dimensions, and then select the enclosure. Reversing that order can leave you with a case that fits the fuselage but not the wings or tail.

Compare Airbus models before choosing a case

Begin with length and wingspan

The Delta A321neo G2DAL1495 is approximately 8.625 inches long with a 6.75-inch wingspan in its listing. The Philippine A350-1000 G2PAL1498 is approximately 14.5 inches long with a 12.75-inch span.

Both include stands. Neither listing's length-and-span figures establish the height of the complete mounted display or the exact dimensions of the stand base.

A broad A350 wing needs clearance all the way to its tips. Do not judge case fit from the narrower fuselage or from how little shelf area the support base occupies.

Small numerical clearance is not a comfortable fit

Consider a hypothetical enclosure with a usable interior measuring 15 by 13 inches. Centering the listed 14.5-by-12.75-inch A350 footprint would leave only a quarter-inch at each end and an eighth-inch beside each wing tip.

That arithmetic ignores measurement tolerances, the stand, the chosen angle and the clearance needed to lower or remove the cover. It illustrates why barely exceeding a catalog measurement is not the same as confirming a practical enclosure.

This example is not a recommendation for a particular case. The actual model and support should be measured before making a tight-fit purchase.

Include height, pitch and base

Measure from the bottom of the stand base to the highest point of the mounted aircraft. Depending on the pose, the tail or another projecting point may determine the required height.

Check whether the case's advertised dimensions are external or internal. A thick base, recessed mounting surface or internal fittings can reduce usable space.

If you change the model's angle using a supported adjustment, measure again. Do not assume a diagonal arrangement always saves space; its bounding length and depth can change in ways that make another direction tighter.

Make sure you can open the enclosure safely

A removable cover needs a clear path past the wing tips and tail. A cabinet door also needs room to open without contacting the aircraft or its stand.

Think about how you will take the model out, not only how it looks once placed. Avoid an arrangement that requires touching delicate landing gear, antennas or wing tips whenever the aircraft needs repositioning.

A stand is not a case

The Garuda A330-900 G2GIA969 includes a stand, but that does not add a clear protective enclosure to the purchase. The same distinction applies to the other supplied-stand Airbus offers.

For boxed collecting, measure the retail packaging instead. A box that fits on a shelf and an aircraft that fits under a cover are separate checks.

Choose the aircraft first
