Herpa IL-62M: Cubana CU-T1280 or Luftwaffe 11+22?

Choose the Cubana IL-62M for CU-T1280 in airline colors, or the Luftwaffe IL-62M for the white-and-red 11+22 military-transport presentation. Both Herpa releases are 1:200, so the operator and markings—not a change of scale—are the main reasons to choose one over the other.

Cubana HE573405: retain the full registration

The Cubana de Aviación IL-62M, HE573405, represents CU-T1280. The abbreviated T1280 wording in the store title should not replace the complete aircraft registration in your collection notes.

The white body and blue-and-red tail identify the airline presentation. Choose this release for a Cubana collection, a specific aircraft interest or a civil-airliner shelf rather than assuming any IL-62M with similar colors is the same release.

The M suffix is also part of the intended aircraft designation. When comparing another model, retain IL-62M, the operator, registration and item code together.

Luftwaffe HE573412: a different operator and finish

The German Luftwaffe IL-62M, HE573412, identifies 11+22. The product image shows a red fuselage stripe, red-and-white tail and the military registration on the side.

Choose it for the German transport-aircraft subject rather than a Cubana fleet. A broad category such as commercial aircraft in a store title does not override the specific Luftwaffe identity of this model.

Keep the plus sign when recording 11+22. Removing punctuation or using only IL-62 can make an exact-release search less reliable. The markings identify the represented aircraft; this guide does not describe a current operating assignment.

A long fuselage deserves a side-on display

The IL-62M's long body, high tail and rear engine grouping give it a distinctive outline. A side-on or slightly angled position makes those differences easier to appreciate than hiding the aircraft behind a row of smaller models.

Both listings quote an approximate length of 9.75 inches and wingspan of 8 inches. Treat those as catalog estimates rather than measurements taken here. Confirm the actual model and stand envelope before buying a case with tight clearances.

The tail and rear support details also need handling space. Do not balance a long model by grabbing the tail or engine nacelles; follow the supplied handling and mounting instructions.

Stand inclusion and model construction

Both offers include a display stand and describe diecast metal with plastic components. They are finished aircraft collectibles with no opening body panels listed, not unassembled aircraft kits.

A stand supplies an elevated display option; it does not establish retractable landing gear or working doors. Plan the supported configuration instead of assuming the miniature reproduces every movement of the real aircraft.

One aircraft or an operator comparison?

Choose Cubana when the airline and CU-T1280 are the collecting goal. Choose Luftwaffe when 11+22 and the military-transport finish matter. A pair provides a deliberate same-scale comparison of operator liveries on the same aircraft type.

For a gift, check the registration already owned and the recipient's display space. A visually similar IL-62M can still be the wrong purchase when the intended operator is different.
