Jada Diecast Size Guide: 1:18 vs. 1:24 vs. 1:32 and Nano

For the same vehicle, a 1:18 model is larger than a 1:24 model, which is larger than a 1:32 model. But scale is a ratio, not one standard length for every vehicle. A long car, a tall truck and a compact sports car can have different dimensions even when the scale labels match.

Jada’s collection also includes Nano miniatures, small companion figures and larger articulated figures. Those formats should not be reduced to one universal “Jada size.” Use the exact product dimensions and included-piece list when planning a shelf or gift.

What a scale ratio tells you

In a 1:24 model, one unit on the miniature represents 24 of the same units on the full-size subject. To estimate an ideal scaled dimension, divide the real dimension by the number after the colon.

For the same subject reproduced exactly to scale, a 1:24 version is 32 ÷ 24, or about 1.33 times, as long as a 1:32 version. That calculation explains the ratio; it does not replace the specific miniature’s measurements or establish that two differently styled releases use the same tooling.

Where three dimensions are provided, they are length × width × height. These are supplier-listed approximations from the product descriptions, not measurements taken for this article. Do not use them as exact tight-fit guarantees.

1:32: consider it for a smaller collection row

The linked 1:32 Porsche gives a roughly 4.625-inch example, while the 1:32 Toyota 2000GT with Red Ranger is approximately 5 inches long. Both can make sense when you want several subjects without the footprint of multiple larger models.

The Red Ranger figure is listed separately at approximately 1.5 inches tall. The vehicle length does not include the space needed for the figure to stand next to it. A car-and-figure set can require more display room than a vehicle-only listing of the same scale.

1:24: compare the body type as well as the ratio

The Impala and Gladiator illustrate the problem with choosing a case by scale alone. Both are 1:24, but the Gladiator listing gives a much wider and taller footprint. A compartment planned around a low car may not suit a truck.

Opening features also vary. The Impala lists an opening hood, doors and trunk; the Gladiator lists the hood, front doors and rear gate. Add clearance for the panels you intend to display open rather than measuring only the closed model.

For a two-car package, plan for both vehicles. The Brian-and-Suki set includes two 1:24 cars, not one model supplied in a choice of color.

1:18: larger format does not guarantee every panel opens

The 1:18 red GR Supra has opening doors listed, with an approximate 9-inch length. Do not assume an opening hood or trunk simply because some 1:24 models have those features.

Different real subjects and model styling also explain why a larger-scale compact car is not automatically longer than every smaller-scale large car. Compare the actual product dimensions instead of sorting every model by the scale label alone.

What scale is Nano?

The Nano Time Machine trio’s listing gives an approximate length of 1.625 inches per miniature but does not establish a numerical scale. Do not turn the product name into a universal 1:64 or 1:87 claim.

Choose the set for its small format and included trio. It is different from the individual light-up 1:24 DeLoreans discussed in our Time Machine guide. Small size does not establish working doors, lights or folding mechanisms.

Figure height is a separate specification

A standalone approximately 6-inch Guile action figure is much larger than the small figure included with a themed vehicle. A Scooby-Doo Metalfigs pack is a different format again, with figures approximately 2–2.5 inches tall.

Do not assume all figures in a car manufacturer’s collection are built to the vehicle’s scale. Match the product format and actual height, and leave additional space for any articulated pose.

Measure three things before ordering a case

First measure the model’s maximum footprint, including projecting mirrors or wings. Next confirm the case’s usable interior space. Finally check the case’s exterior dimensions against your shelf. Exterior case dimensions are not the same as interior clearance.

For packaged collecting, replace the loose-model measurement with the package dimensions. For an open display, consider the figure placement, open panels and viewing angle. A paper footprint is a useful way to test the arrangement before buying additional pieces.
