CargoyleThe early Speed Demons colors
Cargoyle looks like a creature crouched over a hot rod, with its front claws reaching past the engine. The orange and yellow versions share that shape, but the eye decoration and spots give you more to compare than body color alone.
Orange first-year details
The orange 1986 Speed Demons Cargoyle is item 2058. It has a plastic body, metal base, chrome-colored interior and engine details, black markings across its back and Ultra Hots wheels. The photo shows the slotted wheel faces and the dark pattern around the cockpit.
Orange alone is not enough to date one. A later orange release uses magenta decoration, so keep the eye and back markings in the same set of photographs as the body.
The yellow set version
The yellow Speed Demons set car is also documented for 1986, with orange eye details and Ultra Hots wheels. Look at the actual eye printing rather than relying on the shade of the body in a listing photo.
The photograph does not show its underside. Record the country marking from the car itself; the older written guide and newer catalog do not give a consistent country attribution for this version.
Check the claws and the face
The thin front claws, teeth and raised head deserve a close look. Ask for the opposite side as well as an overhead view: a missing claw can disappear against a pale background. Chrome wear on the engine and scuffs on the plastic are separate condition issues.
