Custom AMXA blue car alone does not establish an Ed Shaver release
Custom AMX makes a straightforward muscle-car display piece. Collecting the blue Ed Shaver presentation is a different project: the evidence sits in the packaging and decal sheet, not in a special body casting.
A US casting with two wheel styles
Custom AMX is based on the 1968 American Motors AMX. The original Hot Wheels casting was made in the United States with a white interior. Earlier cars have silver-painted bearing wheels; later production includes chrome-finished capped wheels.
Look at all four wheel faces before recording the arrangement. A wheel changed during a repair belongs in the description, even if it matches the finish of the others.
What the Ed Shaver package adds
The UK-exclusive Ed Shaver presentation used a blue Custom AMX on a 1970 Racing Car Series card with an Ed Shaver decal sheet. That sheet distinguishes the presentation from an ordinary blue AMX.
A loose blue car wearing the graphics needs closer investigation. Ask whether the sheet or packaging survives, whether the decals are original and what connects those pieces to the car. Reproduction graphics can reproduce the appearance without establishing the history.
Do not peel a decal or use solvent to test it. Either action changes the evidence and may still leave the question unanswered.
Choose the comparison that fits your collection
For a color collection, judge the finish, cabin and wheels under consistent light. For an Ed Shaver target, include the quality of the documentation and packaging in the decision.
Look around the wheel openings, roof edges and underside for disclosed repairs or repainting. An attractive ordinary AMX does not need a special-edition story to earn a place on a shelf.
