Ice ’T’Check what is under the roof
Ice ’T’ turns an ice-delivery wagon into a hot rod. The removable top is part of the appeal, but it also makes completeness a real question when you find a loose one. Take a look inside before deciding what is missing.
The ice belongs to the early version
The 1971 release was yellow with a black interior. Lift the removable top on a complete early example and there are two ice blocks in the rear. The design came from a Monogram model kit.
Ask for a clear view of the rear compartment and the underside of the roof. You want to know what is included in the sale, rather than discover afterward that the attractive side photograph hid an empty wagon.
An empty rear compartment can be correct
The 1973 release omitted the ice blocks and used a white top without black ink on its raised lettering. The reference records several enamel body colors and a revised base for through-hole wheels.
The Flying Colors version from 1974 continued without the ice blocks. Green is the standard body color in the On Line Redline Guide, with yellow documented as an alternate. Its base detail was simplified again.
That sequence matters when judging a loose car. “No ice” can describe a missing part on one version and the intended configuration on another.
The roof needs its own inspection
Replacement white roofs are available, and original roofs can discolor with age. Ask whether the top is original, replaced or of unknown origin. A bright roof on an older body is something to investigate, not an answer by itself.
Check the edges and attachment areas for cracks, and photograph the roof next to the body if it can be removed without force. Avoid bending an old part just to prove that it comes off.
Choose the version you want to display
The yellow early car and later decorated versions have different personalities. Decide whether the removable cargo interests you, whether you want a particular roof-and-body combination, or whether a worn complete car is enough for your shelf.
