Turn the red car over

The original 1978 red release has yellow, white and black hood decoration, a black interior and blue-tinted windows. Both black metal and black plastic Hong Kong bases are documented. The package photograph cannot tell you which material is underneath a different loose car.

Get a readable underside view before comparing two examples. Record the country marking and base material separately, then check that the wheel faces match on both sides. A black underside is a color description, not a material test.

Gold and gray change the comparison

The 1979 Golden Machines six-pack used a gold-chrome finish with black-and-white decoration. Gray and metalflake-gray releases followed, including blackwall, Hot Ones and Real Riders versions.

On a gray car, look for the side graphics as well as the wheels. On a gold car, check the roof and raised edges for worn plating. Do not mistake reflections from the blister for missing finish.

Quik Trik and Street Beast belong in the search

Later versions were sold as Quik Trik, Street Beast and Ferrari 308. The metallic-magenta Ultra Hots car and metallic-blue Street Beast are useful examples of why the package name alone does not identify every release in this family.

Keep the exact decoration, wheels and country marking in your notes. A later car with the same body shape should not inherit the 1978 description.
