T-TotallerThe wheel history matters
T-Totaller gives you plenty to look at: an upright delivery body, an exposed engine and tiny company lettering across the sides. For an early example, though, the expensive mistake is to accept a redline claim without examining how the wheels are attached.
The early black delivery car
The 1977 Hong Kong T-Totaller is black with delivery-company decoration and a gold-chrome base. It has a black interior and no glazing. Both redline and blackwall forms are recorded.
The little company-name panels are worth a sharp side photograph. Check the lettering for rubbed edges, and look at the body seams rather than judging the finish solely from the broad sides.
Do not authenticate it by wheel color alone
The On Line Redline Guide warns specifically about wheel-swapped T-Totallers. Ask for clear underside and axle photographs, disclosure of repairs and any history that accompanies the car.
Red rings are one visible feature, not proof that the entire assembly left the factory that way. If the underside cannot be examined clearly, leave the originality question open.
Brown, magenta and later collector cars
Brown blackwall releases are documented in 1979. The 1983 Speed Machines version changes the comparison again: magenta body, beige interior and a yellow Malaysia base.
The brown Neo-Classics car pictured here belongs to a later collector series. Treat its card as evidence of that release, not as a photograph of the early black car.
