ThunderstreakThe sponsor and wheels tell the story
Thunderstreak is easy to recognize by its long nose and high rear wing. Dating one takes a closer look. A maroon car on rubber tires and a maroon car on blackwalls belong in different comparisons, even before you read the sponsor lettering.
Formula Fever came before Thunderstreak
The casting appears as yellow Formula Fever in 1983. The red 1985 Thunderstreak Real Riders car carries number 8 and an unpainted Malaysia base; gray and white hubs are recorded. A maroon Real Riders version follows in 1987.
Maroon and blue-and-yellow Kraco cars appear with blackwalls in 1988. The 1989 Kraco Park ’n Plates entry carries number 18. Keep the wheels and packaging in your notes rather than treating every Kraco car as the same offer.
The Pennzoil distinction matters
The yellow 1992 retail Pennzoil number 4 is collector #153, item 4835, with blackwalls and an unpainted Malaysia base. The proposed John Andretti Pennzoil Pro Circuit item 2689 is listed as unreleased. That does not make the ordinary retail car a prototype.
If an unusual car is offered with a pre-production story, ask what supports the claim. A replaced wheel set or missing package cannot supply that history.
Check the wings before the paint
The pictured dark-red #1057 family is listed for 1999 with a blue interior and Goodyear five-spoke wheels. Its Thunderstreak lettering is quite different from the earlier sponsor cars.
Look across both wings from above, then from behind. Check the ends and supports for missing pieces, bends and adhesive. A low side view can hide the far wing tip completely.
Place a loose car on a level surface for an axle check. Note a leaning wheel or a tire rubbing the body before trying to straighten anything. Save an underside photograph with the graphic and wheel details.
