The straw shade supplies a distinct dry-grass accent beside green turf, foliage and shorter grass.

How tall will it look on your layout?
Choose the fiber by the effect you want, not just by package color. A 12 mm fiber corresponds to vegetation roughly 3.4 ft tall in HO (1:87) or 6.3 ft tall in N (1:160). That makes FS628 more convincing as weeds, wild verge growth, brushy grass and neglected ground than a short, freshly cut lawn. In larger scales it can depict shorter field growth. These are approximate scale-height comparisons, not actual plant heights.
Applying 12 mm static grass
- Prepare the base with earth-toned paint, turf or another ground-cover layer.
- Apply the adhesive recommended for your scenery system only where tall grass should grow.
- Use a suitable static-grass applicator in accordance with its safety and operating instructions to help the long fibers stand upright.
- Allow the adhesive to dry, then remove loose fibers and blend with shorter lengths or nearby foliage to soften the transition.
For a natural result, leave gaps and vary patch height rather than applying identical tall fibers over the entire scene. A shorter green or tan base layer under selected straw patches can suggest dry tips above healthier growth. Adhesive, applicator and other scenic materials are separate products.
Frequently asked questions
Is FS628 suitable for HO and N scale?
Yes, as a scenic material, but the visual height changes with scale. In HO and especially N it works best for deliberately tall vegetation rather than close-cut grass.
Is this the same as 2 mm or 4 mm static grass?
No. FS628 has 12 mm fibers. Shorter fibers make more convincing low lawn or ground-level growth, while these produce taller texture.
Is FS628 a finished grass mat?
No. It is loose scenery fiber that needs an appropriate application method and adhesive.
