Display Cases for Grumman Models: Measure Wingspan, Height and Bases
Choose an aircraft case by its usable inside dimensions and the complete display pose—not by a scale label alone. A Tomcat, Bearcat and Prowler can share 1:72 scale while needing different widths and heights. Runway pieces and carrier sections add another footprint entirely.
Choose a Grumman model for your display space
Measure the wing envelope first
The JC Wings VF-41 Tomcat is listed at approximately 10.25 inches long and 10.75 inches in wingspan. A compartment with only 9 inches of usable width cannot accommodate that listed spread-wing width straight across.
The SkyMax Blue Angels Bearcat instead lists roughly 4.75 inches of length and a 6-inch span. A case suitable for the Bearcat is not automatically a Tomcat case, despite the common scale.
Before ordering a model for an existing cabinet, mark its approximate length and span on paper and place that footprint on the shelf. This can rule out an obvious mismatch, but it does not replace the final measurement of the actual model and projections.
Stands and open canopies determine height
A stand-mounted model needs room for the support and the aircraft at its intended angle. Measure from the case's usable floor to the highest point of the finished arrangement rather than using only the fuselage's body height.
An open canopy may become the highest point. Also check whether you can lift the cover clear without brushing the canopy, tail or wing. Allow handling space rather than selecting an enclosure that only just matches the approximate dimensions.
Folded wings trade one clearance for another
The VAQ-136 Prowler lists folding wings. Its spread span is approximately 8.75 inches, but the store does not publish the folded model's maximum height.
A folding-wing pose can reduce width while increasing height. Measure that specific configuration; do not assume that fitting the published spread-wing length and width proves a folded-wing display will fit under the same lid.
Include the scenery, not only the airplane
The Runway24 B-2 is approximately 2 inches long with a 5-inch span, but its included runway strip is 7.25 inches long. The runway can determine the required case length.
The Forces of Valor Tomcat and Enterprise section K likewise require the deck section to be measured separately. An aircraft's four-inch listed length is not the footprint of that whole scene.
Use internal measurements and a final fit check
Case frames, raised bases and wall thickness reduce usable room. Confirm internal length, width and height, and account for any labels or additional figures you intend to add.
