AUTOart Ford GT Heritage vs. Le Mans: Choose the Right Edition

Buy a Ford GT Heritage edition for its tribute finish; buy a Le Mans model for a specific racing entry and year. A Heritage car with a number on its body is not automatically the same subject as a car entered at Le Mans. The AUTOart item number keeps those purchases distinct.

The examples here are all 1:18, so you can focus on the edition rather than accidentally comparing different scales.

Alan Mann, Holman Moody or Prototype?

The Alan Mann Heritage Edition, 72927, wears number 16, red metallic paint and gold stripes. It is the natural starting point when that red-and-gold combination or the named tribute is the reason for the purchase.

The Holman Moody Heritage Edition, 72928, is number 5 in gold metallic with red and white graphics. Do not replace it with the Alan Mann model merely because both are Heritage editions: the number, dominant color and identity differ.

The Heritage Edition Prototype, 72926, uses Wimbledon White with an Antimatter Blue hood and stripe. It offers a lighter-colored alternative to the red and gold cars without changing the 1:18 display scale.

All three listings specify rubber tires, positionable steering, carpeted interior and trunk areas, plus opening doors and engine compartment. Their approximate listed size is 10 × 5 × 2.5 inches. Do not add an opening hood to that feature list unless it is confirmed for the exact edition.

Why the Le Mans year matters even with the same number

The 2016 Le Mans Ford GT number 66, 81610, identifies B. Johnson, S. Mücke and O. Pla. Its description lists a composite model with opening doors, removable covers, rubber tires and steerable wheels.

The 2019 Le Mans Ford GT number 66, 81910, identifies Stefan Mücke, Olivier Pla and Billy Johnson. Despite the same race number and driver names, it represents a different year's entry. Match the year as carefully as the number when completing a race collection.

Do not infer a race win from either listing. Neither “Le Mans” nor a familiar number is a substitute for the specific result of that entry, and this buying guide does not label either number 66 model a winner.

Road-car display or racing display?

A Heritage edition suits a shelf organized around finishes, modern Ford GT designs or a particular tribute. A Le Mans entry suits a display organized by race year, driver lineup or competition liveries. Both can belong in one collection, but they tell different stories.

For a gift, ask whether the recipient wants “the gold Heritage Ford GT” or “the 2019 number 66 Le Mans Ford GT.” That small distinction prevents buying an attractive but incorrect edition.

For an existing collection, note the item numbers already owned. Photographing a box label is more reliable than remembering that the current car is simply “the red Ford.”

Allow space for race bodywork and removable covers

The 2016 number 66 model is listed at approximately 10.75 × 4.75 × 3 inches; the 2019 example at 10.75 × 5 × 3.25 inches. These planning figures differ from the Heritage listings and are not measurements certifying relative scale accuracy.

Leave room for removable covers when arranging an open display. Do not place them where a case lid or another model will press against them. A single scale designation does not guarantee identical case fit across the road and race versions.
