Keep separately numbered recolors

The blue Corvette C7 Z06 Convertible #005 and yellow #098 are separate numbered releases of the same casting. The '95 Mazda RX-7 #016 is listed in yellow, while #141 is lime green. Removing repeated names would erase legitimate checklist positions.

Use the search to collect a casting across its 2018 numbers, then compare the color and decoration. The Mazda collection and Chevrolet collection offer broader shopping; each row also provides a focused casting search.

50 new-model entries, not 87 new castings

The New-model filter selects the first numbered appearance of each of 50 names classified as new models in Hall's Guide. Its later recolors remain in the complete numbered list. A later numbered recolor is not counted as another new casting.

Examples include '85 Honda City Turbo II, 2016 BMW M2, Porsche 918 Spyder, Zoom In and '18 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon. A reference's “new model” classification is not a complete history of every earlier tooling of the same real vehicle.

Annual number, series position and code are different

The standard Datsun 620 #009 is a numbered release. The Datsun 620 Super is listed separately without an annual number, with HW Hot Trucks 4/10 and code FKB40. Do not copy #009 into a Super record just because both use the same casting.

A mini-series fraction identifies a position inside that series, not a production quantity. Package codes are manufacturer release references, not necessarily your store SKU. Some recolors use different codes; the code for one version should not be applied to the entire casting family.

Preserve casting qualifiers

'68 Mustang (Tooned) is distinct from '67 Mustang, 2015 Ford Mustang GT, the convertible, and 2018 Ford Mustang GT. Keep those qualifiers in a buying checklist and examine the actual body shape.

Likewise, C6 Corvette (Tooned) and Corvette C7 Z06 are not interchangeable. Similar names do not guarantee that wheels, axles, interiors or windows fit both castings. The word “Custom” can be part of a factory casting name and is not, by itself, proof of aftermarket modification.

Loose cars: inspect the actual item

Look for paint loss along edges, worn graphics, scratched glazing, missing pieces, bent axles and changes around base fasteners. A loose car is not automatically mint or factory-original. A display description does not guarantee track performance.

Browse Loose Hot Wheels and compare the listing photographs with the version you need. Casting searches cover more than one year and can return customs or sold-out items. An unsuccessful long query is a reason to try the distinctive casting name, not to substitute an unrelated car.

Carded cars: evaluate the package separately

Check creases, corners, blister cracks, lifting, possible resealing and label residue. Confirm the number and mini-series shown on the pictured card. Keep package condition separate from the car's condition, and make sure the photographs represent the item being offered.

Build your own: start with the casting

Choose the body style, examine its condition and check wheel openings and chassis clearance. Wheel diameter, width and axle length need to fit the actual casting. Sharing a manufacturer, scale label or model-family name does not establish compatibility.

Finished customs: record the modifications

Read the stated paint, graphics, stance and wheel changes, then inspect the photographed finish. Keep those changes separate from the original factory release record. A custom can be the right display purchase without being an untouched 2018 variation.
