Dump TruckCheck the tailgate before the cab color
The Heavyweights Dump Truck has more to inspect than its painted cab. A missing gate or cracked bed mounting can disappear in a side photograph. Start at the back, then work forward to the chassis and cab.
The early Heavyweights assembly
Ira Gilford’s Dump Truck joined the Heavyweights in 1970, with Hong Kong production. Its plastic bed assembly clips onto the long diecast chassis. The bed tips and the rear gate opens.
The supporting plastic base beneath the bed is documented in orange and brown. That colored part is separate from the metal chassis underneath the whole truck.
Look at both gate pivots
Request a rear view with the gate in place, then close views of both mounting points. Check for broken corners, glue or a gate that rests crookedly. If the bed moves safely, a gentle demonstration can show more than a posed photograph.
Do not load it with material or force old plastic through its movement. Record whether the rear assembly has been replaced or transferred from another cab; a compatible part is not proof of an original pairing.
The pictured truck belongs to 2012
The Neo-Classics release shown here has a green Spectraflame cab, orange platform, yellow hopper and a chrome metal China base. Its packaging identifies a much later collector edition.
Keep the edition, complete rear assembly and condition together when comparing examples. A newer truck does not establish the appearance of every original cab-and-bed combination.
