The annual number, series fraction and product code are different identifiers. Standard numbered entries, the twelve numbered Treasure Hunts and the unnumbered mail-in truck are separated below. All 212 annual positions are retained once; no chase row is counted twice.

What makes the 2004 lineup different?

Selected colors are identification clues—not a price ranking

The color column describes one or more versions recorded for that position. It is not a promise that all colors are listed, that they were equally distributed, or that a particular color is rare. Where a record includes a retailer release, the note distinguishes it from the selected ordinary finish. Keep additional wheel, interior and package details in a separate variation log.

For a practical want list, write the casting, collector number, series and the visible feature you need. “Morris Wagon #108, gold co-molded wheels” is more actionable than “gold Hot Wheels.” Leave a missing photograph or unconfirmed component explicitly unresolved.

Identify the casting before the variation

Collector number, series position and code are different fields

Pontiac Bonneville is #101 overall and 1/12 within Treasure Hunts; B3570 is the selected product identifier. The mail-in VW Drag Truck is described as First Editions #101 in the reference but has no annual number here. Ordenaring those values into separate fields prevents a promotion from overwriting a numbered car.

The plain phrase “2004 Hot Wheels” can also be mistaken for a vehicle-model year. A Mustang name containing 2004 describes the subject; it does not by itself establish the year of every later release. A base copyright date is another clue, not a complete annual-release identification.

Zamac, wheel swaps and an unpainted appearance

The source records selected unpainted First Editions variations under existing positions. Do not create a new collector number for each, or assume every stripped-metal car is a factory Zamac. Match decoration, components and packaging where available, and ask whether the finish has been altered.

A wheel swap may be well executed without being factory-original. For a custom project, choose parts for the actual body and axle arrangement. For a factory variation, compare an appropriate release reference instead of relying on a generic wheel description.

Compare like-for-like evidence

A completed sale is useful only when the casting, release, originality and condition are genuinely comparable. An asking price is not proof of a transaction. This guide does not reuse historical price-guide columns as present-day values or infer a production quantity from a variation label.

The word “Custom” can be part of a factory casting name, such as Custom ’59 Cadillac. That is different from an individual car being repainted or rebuilt after manufacture. Keeping both meanings clear makes your shopping list and collection records more accurate.
