Reading the unusual 2005 First Editions lineup

The first 60 numbered entries are divided into five named groups: 20 Realistix and ten each of Drop Tops, Blings, Torpedoes and X-Raycers. A First Editions label is therefore only the beginning of an identification. Record the named group as well as the car. A Torpedoes Willys Coupe at #050 and the '41 Willys Coupe at #114 should not become one entry just because a seller shortens both names to “Willys.”

There are also ten Track Aces, ten five-car themed segments, twelve Treasure Hunt positions, an additional VW Drag Bus reference and fifty open-stock positions. This layout explains the table without treating every recolor as a new annual entry. Use a series filter for a manageable project, such as the five Muscle Mania releases or the ten X-Raycers First Editions.

Overbored 454T is not a shorthand for every Overbored car

At #048, the final T belongs in the reference name. Keep the Torpedoes series beside it when searching and recording your collection. A product photo should establish which body is being offered. For a custom project, that difference also matters when assessing proportions and the space available for replacement parts.

Acura HSC Concept #010: correct casting, correct year

The Acura HSC Concept record identifies the 2005 Realistix First Editions release as G6721. It documents gray cars with black or gray bases and standard five-spoke or Faster Than Ever wheels. This entry is HSC Concept, not Acura NSX.

That name distinction prevents a wrong purchase before finer variation details even matter. Ask for the underside, both sides and a clear wheel view. A matching paint color does not resolve the base variation. The reference also separates the red 2006 release, so a later HSC should not fill the 2005 position automatically.

2005 Ford Mustang GT #006: the model year can mislead

The name “2005 Ford Mustang GT” is used for releases beyond the 2005 collecting year. The Mustang casting record identifies this First Editions entry with G6725. Its red examples include black-interior/chrome-base and chrome-interior/black-base combinations, with multiple wheel records. It also identifies a black Walmart version.

Consequently, “2005 Mustang, red” is not a sufficiently precise want-list entry. Record the annual release, interior and base separately. For a loose example, ask for a photo rather than assuming a dark-looking interior is black; lighting and reflections can conceal the difference. For a packaged example, compare the car itself with the package identification.

The same reference lists a yellow Ford dealer promotion under a different code, J5840. It should not be treated as just another unnamed red mainline variation. Browse Mustang models with the intended release written down, whether the goal is factory originality or a modified display car.

Rocket Box #036: inspect both sides and the base

The Rocket Box reference places its 2005 Blings First Editions versions under G6703. It distinguishes flat and gloss white finishes, different skirt colors, passenger-side numbers 15 and 26, and smooth or textured base records.

This is a practical example of why one side photograph can be insufficient. A seller may show the side that does not resolve the printed-number variation. Request the missing view before committing to a particular variant. Keep the observed number, finish and base texture together in your notes instead of using a broad label such as “white Rocket Box.”

A documented difference helps identify a car; it does not establish a production quantity or guarantee a higher value. Decide which differences you actually want to collect, then compare like-for-like listings rather than paying more simply because a title says “variation.”

Treasure Hunts and the additional VW Drag Bus reference

The twelve Treasure Hunt positions run from Purple Passion #121 through The Demon #132. The year reference separately lists VW Drag Bus #133 as Treasure Hunt #13, with 1995–2005 decoration on the spoiler. It has its own group in this checklist so it is not silently folded into a twelve-car count.

Keep annual numbers and series positions distinct: the '67 Camaro is annual #122 but Treasure Hunt #2. This matters when comparing a seller's title with a checklist. A model can be listed correctly under either numbering scheme, but those numbers are not interchangeable without their labels.

Shopping for a factory chase also requires more than spotting rubber tires. Replacement tires or a custom paint job can change an ordinary car.
