Airfix P-51D Mustang A05131A: Schemes, Supplies and Build Planning

Choose Airfix A05131A for a 1:48 Mustang project built around its included The Millie G or Frisco Kid marking option. It is an unassembled plastic kit, and its finished appearance depends on the version and painting plan you choose. Check the release code before assuming another P-51 box contains the same decals.

The Millie G and Frisco Kid are alternative projects
The A05131A Mustang includes two marking schemes. The product photograph shows an assembled and painted The Millie G example; that is a possible result, not a completed aircraft supplied in the box.
The Frisco Kid option is identified as a P-51K in the release information, despite the P-51D name used for the kit. Follow the instruction choices for the selected version rather than applying either decal set to an arbitrary mixture of parts.
Choose one scheme before removing optional components from the frames. Keep unused pieces until the model is finished so an early choice does not become an avoidable replacement-parts problem.
What the conflicting part counts mean
The checked Muncle Mikes record lists 136 parts and a Level 2 label, while Airfix's own specification for A05131A lists 147 parts and Skill Level 3. That discrepancy is not resolved by treating one number as a hands-on count.
For purchasing, plan for a multi-stage aircraft project and use the more cautious Skill Level 3 expectation. Do not choose it as a guaranteed easy build because of the lower imported label. Check the instruction inventory against the actual package when it arrives.
Plan the finish before buying extra supplies
Paint and model cement are required separately. The light-gray molded plastic will not arrive with the colors, markings or surface finish shown in the completed example.
Separate the painting plan into interior work, main exterior colors and markings. Parts enclosed inside the fuselage may need painting earlier than the exterior. Test your chosen paint and application method on spare material before committing to the most visible surfaces.
For a metallic-looking finish, think about surface preparation as well as the paint color. Do not make an airbrush purchase mandatory just because a photograph looks smooth; choose a method and materials that suit your experience and the finish you intend to achieve.
Check the shelf and display support
The storefront dimensions are approximately 8 inches long by 9.25 inches across. Allow more than that footprint for handling and for any base you choose.
A display stand is not included. For an in-flight presentation, confirm both the kit configuration and the mounting method before buying a separate stand. A stand designed around another aircraft or scale should not be assumed to fit.
Who should shortlist this release?
It suits a builder who wants these specific Mustang markings and is prepared to plan assembly and finishing in stages. For a gift, check whether the recipient already owns A05131A and whether they want a Mustang project rather than a ready-built aircraft.
For another 1:48 subject to compare, the Spitfire mark-selection guide separates fighter and reconnaissance choices. Choose by the aircraft you want to build, then compare the complete supplies cost.
