The 280 SEL has a different appeal from the winged racers: upright grille, long cabin and small details that reward a close look. Dark blue, gray and forest green all suit that shape, but their wheels and original packages give each release its own identity.

What to look for
GJP97 is the dark-blue 2020 Modern Classics car, HBL99 is the gray sedan from a 2021 Mercedes two-pack, and HCK18 is the green 2022 AutoStrasse release. All three use metal bases; the gray car’s pack also includes a separate black 190 E.

Choosing one for your collection
Examine the grille, headlight printing and bright trim. On a plain-bodied sedan, a missing piece of small decoration stands out more than it would in a busy racing livery.
For the gray car, clarify whether the two-pack companion is included. The package code is shared, but the two Mercedes models are separate castings.

It identifies the Mercedes two-pack containing the gray 280 SEL and a black 190 E 2.5-16. This guide follows the older gray sedan.
