Buzz OffThe name on the base tells part of the story
Buzz Off’s smooth wedge shape began life under another name. That makes the underside especially useful: body shape alone cannot tell the whole story when you compare Tribaby, an early Buzz Off and a later decorated car.
Tribaby became Buzz Off
The casting was renamed from Tribaby in 1973. The base lettering changed, and the flat-black rear-louver trim was omitted. The On Line Redline Guide records early and late 1973 base variations, as well as different body and base combinations.
Photograph the full underside and rear body detail. A seller’s title may use the better-known name without showing which base is actually fitted.
Look at the wheel construction
Early 1973 examples have capped wheels front and rear; later ones use through-hole front wheels. The guide records both light and dark interiors.
These details are more useful than assigning a shade name from one screen image. Green and blue finishes can shift under indoor lighting, so ask for another view in neutral light when color is important to the comparison.
Blue decoration and plastic bases
The 1974 Flying Colors version is blue with yellow pinstriping. The later 1976 blue car uses a black plastic base. Plastic bases also appear on the 1977 gold-chrome and blue beetle-decorated versions.
A plastic base is therefore not, by itself, a sign of a repair. Compare it with the body decoration and wheel arrangement. Unusual promotional claims still need supporting history rather than a confident caption.

An early Buzz Off wheel arrangement
Ask for both sides and the base before calling mismatched-looking wheels an error. Replacement running gear and documented production changes are different explanations. The earlier Tri-Baby’s three turbines also should not be mistaken for a three-wheel layout.
