Hot Wheels 500Start with the wing and the race markings
Hot Wheels 500 is an open-wheel racer with a narrow nose and a broad rear wing. The blue Race Team car and black Treasure Hunt share that shape, but their graphics and wheels tell different stories. Check the small lettering as carefully as the body color.
No Fear and Hot Wheels 500 share a casting
The casting dates to 1994 as No Fear Race Car and is also known as Hot Wheels 500 from 1995. Early black #244 carries red-and-white race decoration, No Fear wording and blackwall wheels.
The 1995 Race Team #276 entry is metalflake light blue with red, yellow and white race decoration, number 1, a metal base and blackwalls. Other #276 wheel and blue-finish entries are recorded, so a blue loose car still needs a closer comparison.
Get photographs of both sides and the rear wing. A small crop can hide the wording that separates two otherwise similar cars. Keep the package name in your notes as well as the casting name.
The black 1999 Treasure Hunt
The pictured Treasure Hunt is number 7 of 12, item 21094 and collector #935. Its black body has number 1, Heralda and TH side markings, a black interior and an unpainted Malaysia metal base. The black seven-spoke wheels carry Treasure Hunt Ninety-Nine tire lettering.
Ask for a sharp wheel close-up when that lettering matters. Rubbed printing and replacement wheels change the condition or originality of the example; neither should disappear behind a broad Treasure Hunt description.
The nose and wing need more than a side view
Look directly across the front and rear wings for bent, broken or repaired edges. Check that the exposed wheels sit squarely, and ask whether an axle rubs or has been straightened. A photograph cannot establish rolling performance.
Inspect the narrow nose from above, then use a second angle to check paint wear hidden by reflections. For a carded car, look at the blister beside the wing and wheels as well as the hanger and corners.
Choose the release first, then compare examples in similar condition and packaging. A modified racer is a different comparison from an untouched factory car. The loose-car checklist covers the remaining purchase questions.
The black No Fear number 1
The No Fear name appears on several surfaces, not just the rear wing. These photographs show the large sidepod lettering, number 1 and smaller Racer panel together. A side view cropped ahead of the wing leaves out part of the identification.
This black No Fear release is separate from the black 1999 Treasure Hunt pictured at the top of the guide. Compare the words and wheel details before relying on the shared color. Look closely at the thin wing edges and the small printing, where wear can be harder to see against the gloss-black finish.
