Hot Wheels ’67 Camaro 3913 (1983 Mainline): Casting Info & Complete Collector’s Guide

The first Hot Wheels ’67 Camaro, introduced in 1983

Hot Wheels introduced the ’67 Camaro casting in 1983 with this red mainline, toy 3913. Yellow, white and black flames frame the small “67 Camaro” lettering; blackwall wheels, clear windows and a black interior complete the look. The opening hood is a defining feature of this early release, and both Hong Kong- and Malaysia-marked bases are documented.

Casting Info: 1983 Mainline

The red 1983 issue was the first Hot Wheels release of Larry Wood’s ’67 Camaro casting. Its opening hood reveals the engine detail beneath. The model represents a first-generation Chevrolet Camaro: 1967 is the car’s model year, while 1983 is the Hot Wheels release year.

The flame decoration runs along the sides around the small “67 Camaro” lettering. Clear glazing and a black interior complete the original red-and-blackwall combination.

Variation Summary

How this release fits the ’67 Camaro variation web.

Variation Summary

Two origins are recorded for the red 3913: Hong Kong and Malaysia. The cars share the same red paint and flame decoration; the country stamped on the underside distinguishes the documented base versions.

The lime-colored 1983 anniversary Camaro is a different issue. Its black roof and lack of the red car’s flame graphics distinguish it from this mainline release.

Physical Details

Paint, tampo, glazing, wheels and base details for this issue.

Physical Details

The unpainted metal base forms the bright grille, bumpers and exposed engine beneath the opening hood. The wheels are blackwalls: black plastic tires with bright centers and no red sidewall stripe. These should not be confused with the rubber-tired wheels fitted to later collector releases.

The hood edge, windshield pillars and roof corners are exposed wear points. On the sides, paint loss can interrupt the thin flame outline or remove the Camaro lettering. The pictured example has visible wear; bare metal on it is not a separate factory color.

Packaging Details

Match the original series and toy number to the car.

Packaging Details

The original 1983 New Model card identifies the car as the ’67 Camaro, No. 3913. Its blister holds the red flame release shown here; the country of manufacture is marked separately on the car’s base.

For a carded example, judge the card and blister separately from the car. Creases, price labels, fading and cracks affect the package; paint loss or a loose hood hinge affects the casting. The copyright molded into the base dates the tooling, not the sale of an individual car.

Buying & Value — Collector Reference

Compare the exact release and condition

For this early release, intact side flames, legible Camaro lettering and a complete hood are useful condition distinctions. Check the hinge without forcing it, and inspect the windshield pillars for bends or breaks.

Both Hong Kong and Malaysia bases are documented for this issue. Compare completed sales with the same base origin, paint and graphic condition; unsupported rarity claims and asking prices are not evidence of a premium.

Release Details

Red flames and blackwalls mark the 3913 mainline

The red mainline and lime anniversary car appeared in the casting’s debut year, but their decoration serves different purposes. The red car uses flame graphics and Camaro lettering; the anniversary issue uses a lime finish with a black roof. Later California Custom and Treasure Hunt releases change the wheels and interior as well as the paint.

’67 Camaro — Collector FAQs

Collector FAQs

Why does the base date differ from the release year?

The date cast into the base is a tooling copyright date. Identify the issue with its paint, graphics, wheels and release documentation as well.

How do I distinguish the Hong Kong and Malaysia examples?

Read the country marking on the underside. Their shared red flame decoration does not identify the base origin.

Is the lime anniversary Camaro the same variation?

No. It has a lime finish and black roof, while this red mainline carries flame graphics and “67 Camaro” side lettering.
