1973 Volvo 142 GL Collector Guide
A small boxy Volvo can hold its own beside much flashier cars. The 142’s upright cabin, round headlights and low stance give it a familiar outline, while the paint and wheels change its personality. Teal, orange, black and white releases make a useful side-by-side comparison.

What to look for
Two black cars need particular care: the plain AutoStrasse chase and the Boulevard number 73 racer. Their decoration and packaging are different. The later white Euro Style car also belongs to a different product line from the early Car Culture singles.

Choosing one for your collection
Check the thin window pillars, front corners and wheel alignment. On a dark car, ask for a well-lit side view so the body lines do not disappear into the background.

Is every black Volvo 142 a chase?
No. HCK20 is the black AutoStrasse 0/5 chase. HRT79 is the separate black Boulevard racer with blue stripes and a white 73 on the door.
