Porsche 959Racing stripes, chrome and painted eyes

The older Hot Wheels Porsche 959 has worn some very different finishes. Racing numbers help identify one group; textured chrome and Eye-Gor’s eye graphics identify others. Keep the body decoration with the wheel and interior details when sorting loose examples.

The early red and blue cars

The 1988 red Speed Fleet car has orange-and-yellow stripes and Porsche 959 lettering. The blue Speed Shift 500 set car carries number 7. Both have tan interiors, clear glazing, unpainted Malaysia bases and Ultra Hots wheels.

The red 1991 car with blue-and-yellow 59 graphics uses a gray interior and gold Ultra Hots. Its collector number is 80: the number printed on the body is not the collector number.

Photograph the hood and both sides before comparing two red cars. A cropped door photo can leave out the very graphic that distinguishes them.

Gleam Team and Eye-Gor

The 1992 Gleam Team #193 has a textured, undecorated chrome finish, also recorded in pink chrome shades, with a black interior and Ultra Hots. A pink-chrome version appeared in a five-pack too.

Eye-Gor is the 1993 Tattoo Machines treatment: yellow and green with eye graphics, gray interior, China base and blackwalls.

On chrome cars, use soft light to separate the surface texture from scratches or lost plating. On Eye-Gor, inspect the small eyes across the curves of the body. A partly rubbed pupil needs a condition note before it needs an error story.

The silver Treasure Hunt shown here

The 2003 Treasure Hunt has metallic-silver paint, gold-and-white decoration, a hood TH logo, black interior, Malaysia base and Real Riders.

It supplies a clear reference for this casting’s shape, but its tires and finish should not be copied into an early Speed Fleet description. Later Hot Wheels 959 castings need their own identification.

Look behind the car to inspect the spoiler and its supports. Check the front edge, glazing and all four wheel faces, then save a complete underside view. Ask about repainting, exchanged parts and opened fasteners. The loose-car checklist covers those originality checks.
