1970 Volkswagen Baja Bug Collector Guide
This Baja Bug takes the Beetle shape and squeezes it into a tall, short off-roader. The large rear wheels, exposed engine and roof lights give it a lot of character even before the colors change. It is the exaggerated Tooned-style casting pictured here, so the name alone is not enough when browsing other Volkswagen Baja models.

What to look for
The white and red debut cars keep the body decoration simple. The 2021 Baja Blazers colors add different window and wheel combinations, while the anniversary car goes for blue, pink and turquoise. Line them up from the side and those changes are immediately clear.

Choosing one for your collection
Check the roof lights and exposed rear engine first. Then look at both rear wheels from behind; their size makes an uneven axle particularly noticeable.
On a loose car, compare the window tint and front wheels as well as the body. The front and rear wheel designs are deliberately different on several releases.
