Auto World 1:64 vs 1:18: Which Scale Fits Your Collection?

Choose Auto World 1:64 for a compact collection with room for more vehicle subjects. Choose 1:18 when you want a larger individual display and the particular model's additional opening features. Neither size is automatically the better purchase: the right choice depends on what you want to see and how much space you have.
Compare Auto World cars by scale
Turn the scale number into a real shelf measurement
A scale ratio describes the relationship to the full-size subject; it is not the model's length in inches. For the same subject, 1:18 is a larger reproduction than 1:64. Different vehicles also have different proportions, so two models sharing a scale need not share a footprint.
The 1:64 Nissan Z in Passion Red is listed at approximately 2.625 inches long. The 1:18 1967 Corvette Stingray is approximately 9.5 inches long, 4 wide and 3 high. These are different vehicles, not a controlled same-car scale comparison, but they show the practical space involved.
Smaller does not necessarily mean a sealed body
The linked Nissan Z has an opening hood, rubber tires and a diecast metal body and chassis. It is a sensible option when you want a small model with some engine-area access rather than only an exterior shape.
However, the 1:64 red number 14 GT40 specifically has no opening panels. Buy it for the complete exterior presentation; do not attempt to lift a panel because another Auto World miniature has a working hood.
What does a larger car offer?
The 1:18 Corvette lists opening hood and doors, positionable wheels, and interior and engine-compartment detail. Its construction combines diecast metal with plastic components. Door access is a useful reason to choose this offer when viewing the cabin matters to you.
Opening functions still vary within 1:18. The Sublime Green 1970 Charger R/T also lists an opening trunk; that feature is not stated for the Corvette. Compare exact releases rather than assuming all large models open the same way.
Choose storage before expanding the collection
A compact lineup can use individual display domes or a multi-car cabinet, provided each model fits. A larger centerpiece needs space around mirrors and open panels. The unopened retail package can require more room than the model itself.
Do not assume that every 1:24 car is shorter than every 1:18 car. The 1:24 Tony Stewart Top Fuel dragster is listed at approximately 16.75 inches long because its represented vehicle is unusually long.
For a gift, match the recipient's existing scale and favorite subject first. For your own shelf, mark out the listed dimensions and allow handling space before ordering. Find the combination of size, subject and features that works for you in the Autoworld Models & Collectibles collection.
