Grumman Model Sizes: 1:72, 1:200 and Runway24 Compared

Representative current product image for Grumman Model Sizes: 1:72, 1:200 and Runway24 Compared

Choose 1:72 for a proportionally consistent aircraft collection, or a smaller display format when desk space is the priority. Keep the actual model dimensions beside the scale. Runway24 is a product-series name, not a statement that its aircraft are 1:24.

A 1:72 jet occupies more than its fuselage length

The Hobby Master HA5259 Tomcat is listed at approximately 10.25 inches long with a 10.75-inch wingspan. Plan a broad footprint: a shelf long enough for the nose and tail can still be too shallow for the wings.

The JC Wings VAQ-136 Prowler is approximately 10 inches long with an 8.75-inch listed span. Both are 1:72, but they do not need identical spaces. Folding or sweeping a model's wings changes the arrangement only where that function is specifically supported.

Propeller aircraft can make a smaller 1:72 display

The SkyMax Blue Angels Bearcat, SM1011, is listed at approximately 4.75 inches long and 6 inches across. It offers a substantially smaller footprint while retaining a stated 1:72 ratio.

That makes a Bearcat worth considering when you already collect 1:72 but cannot accommodate a large Tomcat. The size difference reflects different aircraft subjects; it is not evidence that one manufacturer used the wrong scale.

The 1:200 Tomcat includes scenery that needs its own space

Forces of Valor WJ-831111 is the small VF-142 Ghostriders Tomcat and Enterprise deck-section K offer. The store lists the aircraft at approximately 4 inches long with a 3-inch span.

The aircraft is only part of the package. A deck section spreads beyond the parked model, and assembling more sections increases the display substantially. Do not buy a four-inch compartment expecting the entire aircraft-and-deck scene to fit inside it.

Runway24: use dimensions, not an assumed ratio

The Runway24 Jolly Rogers F-14 is approximately 4.25 inches long with a 2.5-inch span. Its offer does not state a fixed scale, and it includes a 7.25-inch runway strip.

A Runway24 model can suit a recognizable-aircraft display, but its similar length to another small Tomcat does not establish exact scale compatibility. That distinction matters when adding figures, deck vehicles or buildings intended to reproduce a consistent miniature environment.

Make the final measurement for the intended pose

Use length, wingspan and height, then add the stand, runway or deck dimensions. Measure a stand-mounted aircraft at its actual angle; tilting it changes the required height and depth. The catalog figures here are approximate, not physical case-fit tests.

Choose a fixed-scale lineup or a compact themed display intentionally, then check the individual offers in the Grumman Scale Models collection.
