Vallejo Model Air Soviet/Russian Su-7 and Su-17 Fitter, 8-Color Set – 71.604: Scale, Subject & Display Guide
Rather than repeating the catalog description for Vallejo Model Air Soviet/Russian Su-7 and Su-17 Fitter, 8-Color Set – 71.604, this guide turns the hobby paint sets listing into a decision record. It explains how the Vallejo item is identified, how the available evidence should be read, and where confirmation is still required.

The complete title is meaningful here, not decorative. The year 1990 belongs to the listing identity; it should not automatically be treated as the manufacturing date of the item. Keep VLJ71604 with the product record because abbreviated names often omit the detail that distinguishes one version from another.
Confirmed facts versus assumptions
The live record provides the following product-specific information: “Vallejo Model Air 71.604 is an eight-color acrylic paint set for Soviet and Russian Su-7 and Su-17 Fitter camouflage from the Cold War through the 1990s. Range: Model Air Contents: 8 colors, 17 ml each Manufacturer: Vallejo Part number: 71.604 Browse more Vallejo paints and model paints and finishing supplies .” The wording is treated as a source excerpt, not as a substitute for independent fit, scale or condition checks.
Practical use and compatibility
The most useful way to evaluate Vallejo Model Air Soviet/Russian Su-7 and Su-17 Fitter, 8-Color Set – 71.604 is to separate identity from condition. Identity comes from the subject, scale or casting, finish, graphics, wheels and SKU. Condition comes from the actual photographed surfaces, packaging and moving parts. Mixing those two questions can lead to a correct model being described with the wrong condition.
For this listing, VLJ71604 should be saved with the gallery. That preserves the release-level evidence even if similar editions later appear under shortened titles.
Second-pass inspection
The exact item should drive the decision. A collector seeking an original release, a builder seeking a donor casting and a gift buyer seeking a recognizable subject may all evaluate the same listing differently. Recording those intended uses prevents condition or packaging details from being overlooked.
Keep the invoice, SKU and one reference photograph with the collection record so the item can later be distinguished from a close variant.
Image-by-image verification
The photographed item is part of the specification. With 2 images indexed, a buyer can compare color, form, labels, contents and visible condition before relying on a shortened title. Save the image that best shows the identifier VLJ71604.
Before committing the item to a project
- Save the listing URL under VLJ71604.
- Compare the product image with the expected subject or component.
- Check whether optional tools, motors, paint, batteries or accessories are separate.
- Verify the intended storage, display or installation space.
- Record any unanswered question before checkout.

Cataloging and project notes
After purchase, store the acquisition date, price, seller, SKU VLJ71604, selected option and one clear image with the project or collection record. Add notes about fit, assembly, condition or performance only after they are observed on this exact item.
This separates verified ownership evidence from later opinion and makes a replacement or repeat purchase much easier.
Gift considerations
The exact title makes this a specific rather than universal gift. Confirm that the recipient wants this release, quantity and format; a closely related item may not be interchangeable.

Product-specific handoff notes
Anyone using this guide later should begin with VLJ71604 and the full name Vallejo Model Air Soviet/Russian Su-7 and Su-17 Fitter, 8-Color Set – 71.604. The record identifies Vallejo as the vendor and Hobby Paint Sets as the product type. Recheck those details whenever the item is compared with another listing, because punctuation or abbreviated names can hide meaningful release differences.
When the item enters a project or collection, note the date, observed condition, included pieces and any fit or setup result. Photograph modifications before and after they are made. These notes should describe this example only. Keeping them attached to the exact SKU preserves a useful history without turning personal experience into an unsupported specification for every similar product.
