This Blue Hot Wheels Nova Wagon Gasser Puts the Engine on Show

Blue custom Hot Wheels 1964 Nova Wagon Gasser with an exposed engine, blue wheels and Hoosier lettering on the rear tire

The engine is hard to miss on this 1964 Chevy Nova Wagon Gasser custom. Bright intake stacks rise ahead of the windshield, the front of the car sits high, and the long blue body carries a large Hot Wheels logo. It has the shape of a wagon, but very little about its appearance is quiet.

Blue five-star wheels carry the body color down to the tires. White Hoosier lettering on the rear tires adds another detail at the back, where the number 6 and checker graphics finish off the sides. If you want a wagon that stands apart from more ordinary street-car models, this one gives you several reasons to stop and look.

The side graphics are only half the story

From the side, the Hot Wheels logo is the biggest feature. White and orange checker details frame the blue body, while the number 6 fills the rear section. Move your view higher and two broad white stripes, bordered in orange, run along the roof.

Those roof stripes reward a display position below eye level, where you can see the top of the wagon as well as the side. If you put it on a higher shelf, the raised front and bright engine become more prominent. Either position shows a different part of the custom.

Give the front end some room

The exposed engine, downward-pointing side exhaust and bright front bumper put a lot of detail into a small area. A front three-quarter view lets you see those pieces together. Parking another model too close can hide the exhaust or make the raised stance harder to notice.

A closer view from above shows the intake stacks and the space around the engine. It also reveals marks on the glazing and some texture in the blue finish. Compare all five photographs to judge the car as a whole, especially if smooth paint or clear windows are priorities for you.

For an enclosed display, leave clearance above the engine as well as around the body. The tall front details are easy to overlook if you choose a space by the length of the wagon alone. Ask for actual measurements when the fit will be close.

Two blue wagons with very different attitudes

The blue Datsun 510 Surf Patrol wagon makes a useful comparison. Its closed hood and more level profile keep the familiar wagon shape, while the Nova puts its exposed engine and raised front on display. The Datsun also uses red wheels, so the color does not carry through the same way it does on this all-blue custom.

Check the Datsun 510 wagon, or read our Surf Patrol wagon guide before deciding. The two share a color family, but their shapes make them feel quite different on a shelf.

Where is the Hoosier lettering?
