The scale marker N scale is part of the exact identity and should be matched before purchase. The year 1982 belongs to the listing identity; it should not automatically be treated as the manufacturing date of the item. The number 868323 separates this release from visually similar versions. The working catalog key is BLU86677. That key should travel with the saved URL and product image so a later comparison does not collapse this item into another model train rolling stock listing.
Evidence taken from the live record

NS Medium Logo In 1982, Norfolk Southern was formed with the merger of Norfolk and Western and Southern. But that was just the merger of the holding companies. N&W and Southern remained separate railroads under the NS umbrella. It wasn't until October of 1983 that NS logos began to appear on rolling stock. It would be another seven years before Southern Railway was renamed Norfolk Southern Railway and control of N&W was transferred from the holding company to the new Norfolk Southern Railway. Practical use and compatibility
The title of Bluford Shops N 86677 86' Auto Parts Double Door Box Car, Norfolk Southern #868323 may contain scale, road number, body type or decoder family, but no single phrase settles compatibility. Use BLU86677 with the images and current documentation. A visually similar car can carry a different road number; a similarly named decoder can use a different interface.
Test new rolling stock or electronics on a controlled section before regular service. That isolates clearance, pickup, coupler-height and programming issues without disrupting the full layout.
A closer project or collection check
Use a consistent roster format: manufacturer, item number, road name, road number, scale, coupler standard, wheel notes and acquisition date. A complete roster is more useful than a title-only wish list when the same prototype appears in several releases.
If the exact item is intended for display rather than operation, the same identity fields still matter even when radius or control compatibility does not.
Using the gallery as evidence
The gallery contains 1 indexed product image. Compare label text, package shape, visible contents, finish and any small identifying marks with the delivered item. A context image can show tools or related products that are not included, so the written record and selected option still control package contents.
Before committing the item to a project
- Save the listing URL under BLU86677.
- Compare the product image with the expected subject or component.
- Check whether optional tools, motors, paint, batteries or accessories are separate.
- Verify the intended storage, display or installation space.
- Record any unanswered question before checkout.

The collection record worth keeping
The permanent record should answer three questions: what exact item was bought, what arrived, and how it was used or stored. The title and BLU86677 answer the first; arrival photographs answer the second; project or collection notes answer the third.
Keeping those layers separate improves future comparisons and avoids unsupported grading.
