The complete title is meaningful here, not decorative. The scale marker O Scale is part of the exact identity and should be matched before purchase. The number 740 separates this release from visually similar versions. Keep KAD740 with the product record because abbreviated names often omit the detail that distinguishes one version from another.
Reading the source record carefully
The product page identifies the item this way: “O scale AAR Type E medium-centerset metal couplers supplied with metal draft gearboxes; two pairs, black. Brand: Kadee Kadee item: #740 HLH SKU: KAD740 UPC: 765484007401 Supplier: Heartland Hobby Wholesale” That excerpt anchors the guide, while the gallery, SKU and selected variant provide the remaining evidence needed for an exact match.
The category-specific decision
For Kadee #740 O Scale Type E Medium Centerset Metal Couplers with Metal Gearboxes, separate collection identity from operating suitability. Collection identity is established by manufacturer, item number, road name, number and appearance. Operating suitability depends on scale, track, radius, coupler, wheel and control standards. SKU KAD740 links both questions to one product.
When a required dimension or electrical rating is missing, treat it as unconfirmed and consult the current manufacturer instructions.
Where similar listings differ
Use a consistent roster format: manufacturer, item number, road name, road number, scale, coupler standard, wheel notes and acquisition date. A complete roster is more useful than a title-only wish list when the same prototype appears in several releases.
If the exact item is intended for display rather than operation, the same identity fields still matter even when radius or control compatibility does not.
What to inspect in the product images
The photographed item is part of the specification. With 0 images indexed, a buyer can compare color, form, labels, contents and visible condition before relying on a shortened title. Save the image that best shows the identifier KAD740.
