MTH 30-79712 RailKing Erie Lackawanna Crane Tender Car, O Gauge: Scale, Layout & Compatibility Guide

MTH 30-79712 RailKing Erie Lackawanna Crane Tender Car, O Gauge deserves its own article because its identity is more specific than the surrounding category. Confirmed facts versus assumptions

The product description states: “O gauge RailKing Erie Lackawanna crane tender car with a detailed ABS body, die-cast metal chassis, metal wheels and axles, die-cast trucks and couplers, and manually operated crane hook and boom. Measures 12 1/4 x 2 1/2 x 4 1/2 inches and operates on O-31 curves. Manufacturer item 30-79712.” Check fit, scale and condition before ordering.

The category-specific decision

Model-railroad compatibility for MTH 30-79712 RailKing Erie Lackawanna Crane Tender Car, O Gauge begins with the exact scale and item identity, then moves to operating details. SKU MTH3079712 should be matched before relying on a review of a nearby road number or decoder format. Coupler type, wheel standard, minimum radius, control interface and power requirements must be confirmed when they are not stated.

A road name or locomotive family can describe appearance without guaranteeing mechanical interchangeability. The exact release number, scale and photographed hardware determine whether the item belongs on the intended layout.

Using the item with confidence

For electronics, do not connect the item until the locomotive or accessory wiring is documented. For rolling stock, check free rolling, wheel gauge and coupler height. For structures, make a paper footprint before cutting scenery. Each approach tests the highest-risk compatibility point first.
