Nissan 300ZXThe Z31 with opening doors
This Nissan 300ZX is the angular Z31 casting with opening doors. The red car pictured here carries gold Hot Ones wheels and Nissan 300ZX lettering along the sides. Its hood reads 300ZX Turbo, with stripes continuing over the roof. Those details place it in a very different comparison from a later-generation 300ZX model.
The red Hot Ones release
Larry Wood designed this casting, introduced in 1985 with a metal body and chassis. The red Hot Ones version has a black interior, clear windows and a red base. Hong Kong and Malaysia base markings are documented.
The photograph shows the body, printing and wheel faces; it does not show the country underneath. Ask for that view rather than borrowing the base description from another red car.
White cars need more than a color match
A dark-blue launcher-set version followed in 1986, then a yellow Speed Fleet car in 1987. Later white releases include numbered #54 cars and Park ’n Plates presentations. The white family has documented differences in wheels, base finish and interior color.
Keep the full combination in your notes. A loose white car next to a Park ’n Plates container is not proof of its original pairing, and the same hood lettering can appear on more than one package.
Inspect the doors without forcing them
Door gaps are a useful condition check on this casting. Look for an uneven fit, chipped edges and paint bridging a seam. Ask for a photograph with the doors open if they move freely; forcing a stuck door risks damaging the toy.
On the red release, the side stripe crosses the door area. Compare its alignment and wear on both sides. Also check the roof stripe and the small Turbo lettering on the hood, which can rub away before the larger body finish looks badly worn.
The later metalflake-purple #506 uses five-spoke wheels and its own decoration. Describe it separately from the red Hot Ones car when browsing loose examples. Our condition checklist covers repairs and replacement parts.
