1975 Sand Drifter: Closed Hood, Hatch & Identification

Sand Drifter is an outdoor-themed reworking of Power Pad with a closed hood and different rear equipment. Its silhouette should be examined as a complete vehicle, rather than assuming that every design related to Power Pad originally carried the same camper.

The 1975 Flying Colors reference

The checklist records Sand Drifter as item 7651, including yellow and green examples. The pictured yellow vehicle carries flame decoration and redline wheels. Those appearance details establish a comparison target; they do not authenticate an offered example’s wheels, finish or other parts.

Inspect the exposed arrangement

The casting guide documents a cast-over hood where Power Pad’s motor stood, a black plastic windshield frame and a rear hatch cover in place of the camper. Request a top view showing those features together. Check projecting edges for missing ends, glue and distortion. A clean hood graphic can draw attention away from a damaged frame or hatch, so record each area independently.

Inspect the black frame and visible interior without levering out fitted parts. Photograph what is visible and ask about replacement history. If a seller cannot establish a component’s origin, keep unknown in that field rather than inferring originality from how well the assembled car looks.

Flames and finish

Take both side views and a direct overhead photograph in neutral light. Note scratches across the flames and wear at the wheel openings. A green example is not identified completely by its body color; the rest of its configuration still needs to be compared.

Describe suspected touch-ups by their visible location and appearance. A different sheen under one light can suggest a question but does not establish the exact coating or repair process.

Use the Power Pad relationship carefully

The earlier Power Pad guide explains its own camper construction. Compare the complete bodies and supplied equipment when discussing that relationship. Do not call a Sand Drifter incomplete merely because it lacks an accessory belonging to the earlier subject.

Base, wheels and purchase

Save a full underside view and photograph the far-side wheel faces. Record axle alignment and disclosed replacements separately from the body finish. Confirm actual contents and package condition before researching completed sales. Browse loose cars by the current offer’s photographs; the reference photo does not promise that this 1975 version is stocked.

Match a display to the actual Sand Drifter

Measure the windshield frame and rear-hatch arrangement on the example you intend to store. Leave room above its tallest detail and around projecting edges. A case’s outside dimensions do not establish the usable interior space; compare the complete model with the actual storage opening before ordering.

If you pair it with a Power Pad to show a design relationship, give each model its own label and component inventory. Do not add a camper to the Sand Drifter merely to make the pair look alike or imply that a missing camper makes it incomplete. Preserve the original appearance in photographs before restoration, and record any aftermarket changes in the display description.
