1990 Hot Wheels Mini Truck #89: Turquoise Wheel-Variation Guide

1990 Hot Wheels Mini Truck #89

The turquoise 1990 Hot Wheels Mini Truck #89 combines bright side decoration with a blue interior. Its documented wheel configurations give you a more precise starting point than a generic Minitruck label or an unsupported rarity claim.

Identify the turquoise pickup

The Mini Truck / Sonic Special catalog records item 2099, collector #89 with a turquoise body and Malaysia base, blue interior, and purple, blue and yellow side decoration. Both Ultra Hots and Hot Ones wheel versions are listed for 1990.

Compare the wheels, not a seller’s price label

Request square-on photographs of every wheel face. The pattern can disappear in a small thumbnail or an angled reflection. Record the actual wheel configuration before comparing the car with other offers.

Ask whether wheels or axles have been replaced and whether the base was opened. A high asking price does not authenticate a wheel variant, and the catalog’s historic prices do not establish current value. A documented factory configuration and a recently swapped set of wheels require different descriptions.

Separate later colors and names

The reference lists a yellow Burger Stand playset version for 1991 and an orange diamond-decorated #231 for 1993. Sonic Special appears as a later name in the same catalog. Do not apply the orange car’s wheel list or a later name’s release history to every turquoise truck.

For an exact-year collection, ask for readable original packaging. For a loose truck, record what its components support and keep an uncertain package origin qualified. A name used for searching is not the same thing as a verified release identifier.

Inspect the bed, cab and painted base

Ask for an overhead view into the bed and close photographs of its upper rails and rear corners. Check for chipped edges, repairs and repainting. Compare the turquoise base as well as the body; a matching color from a distance does not establish that the underside is undamaged.

Inspect the glazing and visible cabin, then compare both side graphics. A clean passenger side can hide worn decoration on the driver side. Request a flat-surface image to check axle alignment and ask about any wheel rubbing rather than assuming an older car rolls properly.

Build a truck collection that suits you

For factory vehicles, start in loose Hot Wheels and review each listing’s actual photos. For an aftermarket display, browse finished custom Hot Wheels. These are shopping paths to separate inventory, not a guarantee that an exact turquoise #89 is in stock.

For your own paint and wheel choices, select a donor from DIY Hot Wheels kits. Read the inclusions and measure front and rear clearance before ordering wheels and rubber tires. An unfinished donor, an original Mini Truck and a completed custom are three different purchases.

Mini Truck questions

Does the Mini Truck name identify just one wheel version?

No. The turquoise 1990 entry includes two documented wheel families. Compare the actual wheels and remaining components.

How should I compare loose and packaged values?

Use dated completed sales of equivalent condition and originality in the same package format. Keep lots and individual cars separate, and include delivery charges.
