1990 Hot Wheels Oshkosh Snowplow #42: Metal vs. Plastic Guide

The 1990 Hot Wheels Oshkosh Snowplow #42 is not one uniform construction. The catalog records orange and green trucks with metal or plastic body versions, making the actual component material part of a collector's identification.

Compare the #42 configurations
The Oshkosh catalog assigns item 5905 to orange trucks and 2198 to green. Both have matching cabin colors and unpainted Malaysia bases. Orange-hub construction tires appear on orange trucks; green entries have construction and off-road construction tire patterns. No printed decoration is listed for these combinations.
Identify material without damaging the toy
Request clear photographs of the cab, underside and attachment areas, and ask the seller which components are metal or plastic. Do not scrape paint or flex an old part to find out. A claim of all-metal construction should not be accepted from the model name alone.
Inspect the plow and its mounts separately from the cab. Ask about cracks, missing edges, replacement parts and adhesive. A body-material variation is not the same thing as a repair made using another truck's parts.
A larger winter-service building project

The AMT LNT-8000 kit is a skill-level-3, 1:25 assembly project with a dump body and snow-removal equipment. Paint and model cement are separate supplies. Choose it for building, not as a ready-to-play small toy.
Original packaging and price comparisons
For a vintage purchase, request readable card identifiers and inspect the blister around the blade. Later #201 orange trucks require a separate comparison. On loose examples, record material, wheels and completeness before comparing dated completed sales; include shipping and distinguish sealed packages from loose vehicles.
