Hot Wheels Jaguar XJ220: 1992 Label vs. 1993 Release Guide

The references reviewed for this guide place the Hot Wheels Jaguar XJ220’s retail debut in 1993. If a listing calls one a 1992 release, ask what supports that date. This page retains its older address, but the address is not evidence of a separate 1992 issue.

What the debut references establish
The Newsletter’s Jaguar study describes the Malaysia-made debut as a metal-bodied model with a plastic base, interior and windows. Silver #203 has a black base and interior, clear glazing and regular Ultra Hots wheels. The release catalog identifies it as item 3026.
Ask which kind of date the seller is quoting
Ask which date the seller means. The full-size car’s model year, a copyright mark on the toy and its retail release year can differ. A readable photo of the relevant mark or package is more useful than a date in the title alone.
The references used here do not confirm a 1992 retail issue. That leaves an exact 1992 claim needing more evidence. In the meantime, a loose car can still be described by its finish, wheels and other visible details.
Recognize the first-release family without mixing editions
The 1993 records also include colorful Revealers and a chrome anniversary-set car. Keep those editions separate from silver #203. The silver XJ220 spoiler guide looks more closely at the open- and closed-spoiler configurations.
Choose a separately identified Jaguar
For a broader Jaguar display, inspect the actual casting, finish and condition of any current offer. A teal example does not establish a silver debut or an original package year.
Build a useful evidence record
Build your notes from photos of both sides, the roof, underside and any packaging. Record the finish, interior, glazing, wheels and rear-body details. Ask about repainting, repairs and wheel replacements.
For a sealed car, inspect the full blister seam, hanger and card corners and ask about resealing. A separate card placed beside a loose model does not establish that they originally came together.
Price the actual car, not the disputed label
Compare completed sales of the configuration you can identify, in similar condition. Separate loose cars, sealed packages and multi-car sets, and include delivery. An unsupported earlier date is no reason on its own to pay more.
Jaguar release-date questions
Does this guide confirm a 1992 Hot Wheels retail release?
No. The studies consulted here begin with the 1993 release. A 1992 claim needs additional evidence.
Why keep the original URL?
Keeping the address lets existing links reach the corrected identification guide. The old date in the URL is not being used as a release claim.
Keep the date claim apart from spoiler condition
A low rear view can identify the spoiler configuration while a readable package can support the retail attribution. Neither image answers the other's question. Keep a loose car's observed silver finish and wheels in the record even when its exact package year remains unresolved. Use the linked spoiler guide when condition is the buying concern.
| Question | Useful view | What to record |
|---|---|---|
| Date | Complete package front and back | Retail attribution evidence |
| Mark | Readable underside | Copyright recorded separately |
| Spoiler | Low rear photograph | Configuration and damage |
