Which Hot Wheels Monster Trucks are worth a closer look?
Start with identifiable Treasure Hunts, not a seller’s “ultra rare” label. This guide compares eight documented Hot Wheels Monster Trucks chase releases, from the pink Barbie Monster ’Vette to the blue VW Drag Bus and BIGFOOT.
The useful question is not just “Is this truck rare?” It is “Which version is it, and what proves it?” Use the release codes and details below to narrow your hunt, then compare the actual item’s condition and asking price.

These are documented chase releases, not an all-time scarcity ranking. Their identifiers are supported by the linked release references; those references do not establish worldwide production totals, odds per case or current resale values. Match the complete version before paying a premium.

Not every version of these trucks is a Treasure Hunt. The casting name identifies the design; the year, decoration, wheels and item code identify the release you are trying to buy.
How to identify a Monster Trucks Treasure Hunt
The documented examples use a flame emblem inside a monster-truck tire. Locate it on the truck itself, then compare its placement, paint, windows, chassis and wheels with the exact release reference. Do not mistake an ordinary Hot Wheels wordmark for the Treasure Hunt emblem. [1] [3]
Where visible, inspect the original card behind the truck. Orange Track Diecast’s photographed 2022 VW release also documents Treasure Hunt identification on the card backing. A card and truck should match; packaging alone does not authenticate a swapped or modified vehicle. [9]
Barbie Monster ’Vette: check the wheel design
The 2021 GVF73 reference has blue-tinted windows and white five-spoke rims with pink chrome trim. Its pink Corvette body carries the emblem on the rear quarter panel. This is why a universal “look only for red-striped tires” shortcut is unreliable: compare the documented wheel treatment for the release in front of you. [1]
Snake Bite: more specific than “limited release”
GVF76 combines a yellow front fading to a red rear with green rims. Check the emblem along the bed and the snake-themed graphics, not just the Snake Bite name. The photographed release includes a blue re-crushable car; for a loose purchase, ask which original accessories remain. [2]
VW Drag Bus: a 2022 truck with a 1996-inspired look
HGD03 borrows the blue graphics of the original 1996 First Editions VW Bus, but the Monster Trucks Treasure Hunt is a 2022 release. Its large tires and monster chassis make it a different collectible from the original car-sized casting. [3] [9]

Ms. Bigfoot and BIGFOOT: different identities
The light-blue Ms. Bigfoot HLT16 belongs to 2023; the blue BIGFOOT JCF13 belongs to 2025. They have their own body decorations and emblem positions. Neither should be identified solely from a blue paint job or confused with a BIGFOOT model from another manufacturer. [4] [7]
Iced Time Machine: look for the frosted version
The 2023 HLT15 Treasure Hunt has frosty decoration and chrome-rimmed red-stripe wheels. The DeLorean design had already appeared as a Monster Truck in 2022, so “Time Machine Monster Truck” alone is not enough to establish this chase release. [5]
Poison Pinto: retro graphics do not mean a vintage toy
The silver HTM75 pays tribute to the 1976 Super Chromes Poison Pinto. It is nevertheless a 2024 Monster Trucks release. Check the blue-tinted windows and emblem behind the rear wheels rather than assigning it the age of the design it celebrates. [6]
Will Trash It All: a documented 2026 example
JKJ99 is the black-and-gold garbage-truck Treasure Hunt with gold windows, gold rims and tread, and a rear-compactor emblem. Its reference includes a yellow connect-and-crash car. These are identification details, not evidence that the release will rise in price. [8]
What makes a Monster Truck genuinely scarce?
Separate a confirmed chase designation, a retailer promotion, an unusual production variation and a truck that simply is not on your local shelf. Each needs different evidence. An early release date or a damaged card does not establish a short production run.
Retailer exclusives are a separate category
The gold 5 Alarm was documented as a 2025 Meijer promotional Monster Truck, with an in-store offer running April 27–May 9, 2025. That historical distribution information helps identify the edition; it is not a current promotion or a verified production count. [10]
Factory errors need documentation
For missing graphics, unusual wheels or a claimed misprint, request clear photos and a comparison with an ordinary example of the same release. Ask whether the truck was opened, repaired or customized. A difference worth investigating is not automatically a valuable factory error.
Bone Shaker, Demo Derby, Mega Wrex, Tiger Shark and other familiar names can be collecting themes without every edition being rare. Require a specific year, code and documented difference before accepting a claim about “the rare purple one” or “early card art.”
Hot Wheels Monster Trucks, Monster Jam and GreenLight are not interchangeable
Hot Wheels Monster Trucks is the product line covered by the chase checklist above. Keep its release records separate from those for other brands and formats.
Monster Jam is a separate branded collecting route. Monster Jam’s official announcement records its Spin Master partnership beginning in 2019. For an older listing described as Hot Wheels Monster Jam, inspect the maker and packaging instead of assuming it belongs to the current Hot Wheels Monster Trucks checklist. [11]
GreenLight Kings of Crunch is another manufacturer’s series. The models below are offered in 1:64 and 1:43 scales. They are useful alternatives for a broader monster-truck display, but they are not Hot Wheels Treasure Hunts. Check actual dimensions before choosing a shelf or protective case.

Check value, condition and completeness before buying
Use completed sales, not a universal price chart
Search for the exact release and item code. Compare loose with loose and sealed with sealed, recording the date, visible sold price, shipping and any fees. Exclude mixed lots or uncertain identities. An unsold asking price and a dated completed transaction are different kinds of evidence.
Inspect the truck and its package
Request both sides, roof, front, rear and underside. Check axles, wheels, paint, decorative parts and any claimed repairs. For sealed examples, inspect the card and blister for crushing, cracks, lifting or resealing. Ask whether the original crush car or other pack-in is included; a reference photo is not the seller’s packing list.
Choose the right storage and buying format
Measure the truck and packaging before ordering a case. Do not assume a standard car protector fits a Monster Truck blister or that every clear case blocks ultraviolet light. Keep display pieces away from direct sunlight and avoid forcing a card into a tight enclosure.
For a gift, decide whether the recipient wants a sealed collectible or a truck to open and use. Follow the age guidance on the actual product. For display, prioritize the version and condition you enjoy—not a promised investment return.
Your buying checklist: correct brand, scale, release code, decoration, wheels, condition, included items and total delivered cost. A well-described ordinary truck can be a better purchase than an unverified “rare” claim.

Is the blue VW Drag Bus Monster Truck from 1996?
