Do Airfix Kits Include Paint and Glue? Kit-Only vs. Gift Sets

Do not assume an Airfix kit includes paint and glue. The ordinary kits linked here require separate supplies; the two NASA gift sets explicitly include paints, brushes and cement. The exact product code and contents list matter more than the Airfix logo or a photograph of a finished model.

Kit-only: plan the finishing supplies separately

The Spitfire Mk.I A05126B contains an unassembled 1:48 plastic aircraft with three decal schemes. Paint and model cement are sold separately, and a display stand is not included.

Its light-gray plastic is the starting material. Decals provide markings, not the entire painted finish. Choose one scheme from the instructions, then build a paint list for that scheme rather than purchasing every color associated with every possible version.

The same shopping approach applies to the 1:76 Land Rover forward-control truck. Brown molded parts do not mean the model arrives assembled, painted or weathered.

The Discovery gift set includes ten acrylic paints

The NASA Discovery Space Shuttle gift set, supplier item AIRA50200F, lists ten acrylic paints, two brushes, two containers of poly cement and a display stand with its 99-part kit.

That reduces the separate supply shopping, but it remains an assembly project. Included paint does not mean a prepainted shuttle, and gift-set packaging does not turn it into a snap-together or ready-built model.

The Saturn V gift set has a different contents list

The NASA Saturn V gift set, supplier item AIRA50201F, lists seven acrylic paints, two brushes, two containers of poly cement and a stand with its 79-part rocket kit.

Seven versus ten paint containers describes these two packages. It is not a quality ranking, and it does not promise every optional weathering color or coating you might choose to add. The required finish and the builder's preferred techniques determine any extras.

Which tools should you still check?

Neither gift-set contents list establishes a complete cutting, sanding and masking toolkit. Check whether you already have suitable part-removal tools, a work surface, a way to smooth attachment points and the masking materials needed for your chosen finish.

Use the instructions to decide when to paint subassemblies before closing them inside the model. Check the suitability of any adhesive for the material and location being joined, and follow its label directions rather than treating all hobby glues as interchangeable.

Choose the package that suits the builder

A builder with an established paint and tool collection may prefer a kit-only subject. A gift recipient starting with few supplies may appreciate the documented paints and brushes in a NASA set, provided the assembly level and final display size also suit them.

Before ordering, compare the kit price plus the supplies actually missing from the workbench. Do not buy a second stand or more brushes just because another kit required them, and do not count on unlisted accessories being inside the box.
