M2 Toyota SR5: Red Finished Pickup vs. Release 88 Model Kit

The red M2 Toyota SR5, item 31500-HS76, is ready to display with its camper shell. Release 88, item 37000-88, gives you a different Toyota to assemble alongside a Chevrolet and a Mercury pickup. Decide whether you want the finished red truck or a three-truck project first.
Both Toyotas are 1:64, but their finishes and packages differ. Use the full item number when searching: M2 also uses Release 88 for an unrelated Auto Haulers assortment.

The finished red SR5: one Toyota, ready for a display
The red Toyota SR5, item 31500-HS76 has black stripes, a camper shell and a removable hood. The listing also includes rubber tires, a metal body and chassis, and a plastic showcase with the blister packaging.
It measures approximately 2.75 inches long in the catalog. This is the one to choose if you want the red-and-black finish without an assembly project.
The hood is described as removable, rather than hinged. Opening doors and a removable camper shell are not listed features, so follow the supplied instructions instead of forcing those parts.
The Toyota in Release 88: a different finish and a three-kit purchase
Model-kit Release 88, item 37000-88 contains a light-blue-and-off-white 1985 Toyota SR5 with an orange interior. It comes partially disassembled in its own blister pack with an Auto-Lift.
You also get an orange 1990 Chevrolet C1500 SS 454 with graphics and a blue-and-yellow 1967 Mercury M-100 4x4 with Spam graphics. All three trucks are part of the purchase.
The set makes sense if you want to build the Chevrolet and Mercury as well as the Toyota. Do not expect the kit Toyota to duplicate the red single’s camper-shell setup; that configuration is not promised in the kit description.
What comes with the kits?
Each of the three partially disassembled models comes with an Auto-Lift. The set description lists metal bodies and chassis and rubber tires, but leaves the exact parts count, build time and any extra tools or wheel choices unspecified.
Keep each truck’s parts together and work from its supplied instructions. For a gift, check the product’s age guidance because of the small components. These contents have been checked against the listing, rather than through a hands-on build.
Start with each lift’s intended truck. Before trying another vehicle, check its wheelbase and chassis contact points; sharing a 1:64 label does not settle fit.
Does the kit set guarantee the pictured regular versions?
Release 88 allows a chase Chevrolet to replace the regular Chevrolet. That is a possible substitution within the three-kit set, not a guaranteed chase or an extra fourth kit.
That condition belongs to the kit assortment. It does not identify the separate red Toyota as a chase, and a production quantity in the Toyota’s title would not establish that either.
Which purchase suits you?
For a Toyota-only shelf, the red single is the more focused purchase: one finished truck with the camper shell and showcase. Release 88 suits a builder who wants all three pickup subjects.
Compare prices after deciding which format you want. A three-kit assortment and a finished single give you different contents and different ways to enjoy them.
