Hot Wheels Treasure Hunt Guide: TH and Super TH

Hot Wheels Treasure Hunts are designated chase releases within the Hot Wheels range. Start by matching the exact year and model, then compare the car, its wheels, finish, graphics and packaging with a documented release. A familiar casting name or a set of rubber tires alone cannot identify a Treasure Hunt.

This guide focuses on regular mainline Treasure Hunts (TH) and Super Treasure Hunts (STH). Use the 2026 Hot Wheels list for the current numbered checklist, or browse Treasure Hunts and Super TH cars when you are ready to compare available items.

Regular Treasure Hunt, Super Treasure Hunt or another release?

Mattel explains that Treasure Hunts are produced in smaller quantities than other basic vehicles, have special decoration and/or wheels, and are packed randomly into basic assortments. That does not provide a current production total for each release.

A Treasure Hunt is a release designation, not a casting name. The same model can appear as an ordinary mainline, a Super, a Premium release or a custom build. Match the version before comparing scarcity or value.

Compare the release category before checking an individual car.
Category Starting clues What still needs checking
Modern regular TH A documented regular Treasure Hunt release and its circle-and-flame marking. Year, model, color, decoration, wheels and the applicable card. A decorative logo in another product line is not enough.
Modern Super TH A documented Super variation; compare its Spectraflame finish, Real Riders wheels and TH decoration. The exact combination for that release, including package evidence. Premium features are also used on other Hot Wheels products.
Premium car or custom A different factory product line, or a car with aftermarket changes. Identify it under its own release or build details. A wheel swap does not change a factory mainline into a factory Super.

How to identify a Treasure Hunt step by step

1. Establish the year and casting

Write down the name printed on the package and the collector number when available. Record the product code separately from base markings. For a loose car, photograph the whole body and base before narrowing the possibilities. Keep similarly named castings and later retools separate.

2. Match the complete physical combination

Compare paint, graphics, windows, interior, base and wheel design with the exact release reference. Inspect the circle-and-flame or TH marking where the reference shows it. Look beyond a single symbol: HWtreasure notes that the circle-and-flame graphic can be decorative outside the mainline.

3. Compare the package and the car

Check the printed series and annual number, then compare the car inside the blister. Ask for clear photographs if the listing hides the wheels, base or card details. On loose or opened cars, inspect fasteners and record disclosed wheel swaps, repainting or replacement parts. An uncertain example should remain described with the uncertainty visible.

4. Use the correct year list

Open the 2026 mainline checklist for 2026 releases and the year-by-year Treasure Hunt reference for another year. Mattel's 2026 poster lists regular Treasure Hunts but deliberately excludes Supers. Use an exact Super release reference for that second classification.

For a complete identification workflow, continue to the Hot Wheels identification guide. Save your photographs and source links beside the record so another collector can review the same evidence.

The front photograph lets you compare the red car and the 82/250, HW Modified 8/10 card. It does not show every rear or base detail.

The reference for this 2024 Super variant identifies product code HTF33, red Spectraflame paint and Real Rider Exotic wheels. Open its additional views to compare the rear TH marking; request a base photograph when that detail is needed to identify your example.

Treasure Hunt history: the dates that matter

1995: the Treasure Hunt debut

Mattel's retrospective confirms that the first Treasure Hunt selection contained 12 cars in 1995. Research an early release against its own period packaging and physical details; modern identifiers should not be applied automatically to every older car.

2007: Super Treasure Hunts were added

Mattel dates the addition of Super Treasure Hunts to 2007. This is why an early Treasure Hunt and a modern Super should be kept distinct in a collection record even when both attract collector interest.

2012 and 2013: packaging clues changed

HWtreasure's historical identification guide distinguishes Supers within the mainline series from 2012 and the regular TH move to the circle-flame symbol in 2013. A green package stripe helps research regular TH releases from 1995–2012, but it is not a rule for modern cars.

For practice with original records, Mattel's historical archive, page 10, lists Olds 442 (13349), '67 Camaro (13351) and '57 T-Bird (13352) in the 1995 Treasure Hunt selection. These are that list's product codes, not annual 2026 collector numbers.

Each year needs its own evidence

A model's earlier Treasure Hunt appearance does not classify its later releases. Keep the release year, series, collector number and physical variation together. This guide does not assign a current production quantity to every TH or Super: a boxed-set edition size also does not establish how many individually distributed cars exist.

How to research Treasure Hunt values

Identify the exact version before comparing prices

Build a comparison around the same year, casting, finish, wheels and packaging format. Separate ordinary mainlines, regular Treasure Hunts, Supers and customs. A price attached to the casting name alone can describe a different item.

Use completed sales with comparable condition

Record sale date, currency, item price, shipping charge and the condition described in each sold listing. Keep loose and carded results separate. On a carded car, describe both the vehicle and its packaging: blister damage, creases, softened corners, fading and resealing affect the comparison. On a loose car, record chips, worn graphics, bent axles, missing parts and modifications.

Show the evidence and the limits

Prefer several recent comparable sales to one asking price. Keep the sample size and date range with any estimate, and explain excluded bundles, damaged examples or mismatched versions. If comparable sales are missing, say that the value remains unestablished. There is no fixed multiplier in this guide for a Super, an old car or an unopened card.

Use the collector record finder to locate the correct record, then check what market evidence it actually provides. A catalog result alone is not a current price appraisal.

Use separate records for releases, variations and sets

Ordinary mainline and Super counterpart

Keep an ordinary version separate from the Super of the same casting. Copying a Super's product code or photographs into an ordinary-car record creates a false identification. A shared annual collector number does not make the two cars identical.

Boxed sets and individual cars

Mattel's 2025 Super Treasure Hunt set contains 15 individually carded cars in car-hauler-style outer packaging. A loose single car is not the same product as that complete set. Record outer packaging, individual cards and missing contents separately when researching a set.

Other chase lines

Check a Premium or Monster Trucks release within its own product line. The terms chase, Treasure Hunt and Super should not be substituted for one another simply because a car is unusual or has upgraded wheels. Use the collector guide directory to continue by release type.

Storage and condition records

Protect the package without hiding its condition

Choose a protector that fits without pressing on the blister or bending the card. Keep packaging and paint away from direct sunlight, heat and rubbing. Photograph the condition before putting a valuable example into long-term storage.

Store loose cars individually

Use a display or compartment that keeps cars from touching and prevents rolling. Check that supports do not press against fragile trim. Keep identification notes, purchase records and photographs associated with the exact car rather than a generic casting folder.

Preserve original details

Start with gentle dust removal and avoid aggressive cleaners or abrasive polishing on printed graphics. Record any repair, repaint or parts replacement. A disclosed restoration or custom can still be enjoyable to own; the collection record should describe the work honestly.

2026 Treasure Hunt and Super Treasure Hunt list by mix

This index links the 15 regular TH releases and 15 Super variants documented in HWtreasure's regular 2026 list and 2026 Super list. Mix letters identify reference assortments; they do not guarantee a local arrival date or a Super in each case. Each link opens the casting's annual checklist position; then compare the exact physical variant.

A Super can share its annual number with the ordinary version. For the published Sierra number discrepancy, open the Sierra checklist entry and read the source comparison below the table; do not automatically merge conflicting records.

Two exact 2026 Super references to compare

These are research examples, not claims of Muncle Mikes stock. Open the release photographs and compare the individual car before assigning the Super designation.

Exact references separate a Super from the ordinary casting.
2026 Super Reference identity Compare
Honda Civic Custom JJM20; 159/250; HW Drag Racers 8/10; mix F. The reference documents Spectraflame green, a black hood, door TH graphics and mismatched Real Rider wheels.
Ferrari F40 Competizione JJM17; 63/250; Ferrari 3/5; mix C. The reference documents Spectraflame gray, side TH graphics and Real Rider Exotic wheels.

Find the corresponding annual positions in the 2026 Hot Wheels list. Case letters identify an assortment reference; they do not promise a Super in every case.

Compare the exact car before buying

Open the Treasure Hunt and Super TH collection, then check the release details, photographs, packaging condition and availability on the selected product. Ask about any unclear feature before buying a specific variation. Browse custom Hot Wheels separately when you want a modified display car.

Sources and corrections

Manufacturer pages support the history, poster scope and specific Mattel set descriptions. Independent references provide individual release details and photographs. Check the original page and package when sources disagree.

For a correction, use submission instructions and include the exact casting, year, the disputed field and clear car or package photographs. A new submission is evidence to review, not automatic authentication.

Frequently asked questions

Does every case contain a Treasure Hunt or Super?

Do not assume it does. Mattel describes Treasure Hunt packing as random. A mix letter or sealed case does not establish that a Super is inside; this guide does not assign a per-case probability.

What is the difference between TH and Super TH?

They are different release designations. For a modern car, confirm whether the exact year and variation is documented as a regular TH or a Super, then compare the corresponding physical and package details. Do not classify it from its casting name alone.

Are rubber tires proof of a Super Treasure Hunt?

No. Compare the complete release. Other factory lines use upgraded wheels, and an owner can change a car's wheels after purchase. Keep modified parts disclosed in the record.

Does the 2026 Mattel poster include Supers?

No. Mattel explicitly excludes Super Treasure Hunts from its 2026 full-year poster. Use the linked individual Super references as well as the numbered mainline checklist.

How much is my Treasure Hunt worth?

First establish the exact version and condition. Compare recent completed sales for comparable loose or carded examples, and keep the dates, sample size and shipping basis with an estimate. If that evidence is unavailable, a reliable current value has not been established.

Can I identify a loose Treasure Hunt?

You can research it by comparing the whole car with documented release photographs. Record which package-only details are unavailable and any signs of modification. Do not describe a disputed identification as confirmed.
