1976 Volkswagen Golf Mk1 GTI Collector Guide
The RLC Golf keeps the original hatchback’s compact shape but adds wide arches and a deep front spoiler. Shadowchrome gives the 2025 car a restrained metallic look. The 2026 Gulf version goes the other way, with blue paint, orange arches, white wheels, and a large number 1.

A wide-bodied take on the Mk1 Golf
JCP07 is the 2025 Shadowchrome release with aero wheels. JJY63 is the 2026 Gulf blue car with white racing wheels and orange details. Both have an opening hood, but the finish, wheel design, and decoration make each worth inspecting on its own.

Choosing one for your collection
The front spoiler sits very low, so start there when checking a loose Golf. Look at the outer fender flares for scuffs and ask for the hood closed as well as open. A top view makes it easier to judge the panel fit and roof finish.
Check the wheel faces and cabin details in close-up rather than relying on a distant side photo. The two editions also came in different presentation formats, so ask exactly which card, case, and outer packaging are included.
Collector questions
Is the Shadowchrome body simply matte black?
No. JCP07 has a reflective Shadowchrome body. Black is used for other parts and details, including the chassis; it should not replace the body-color description.
