MINI GT LHD vs RHD: Choose the Steering Layout You Want

LHD means the steering wheel is on the car’s left; RHD means it is on the right. Read those sides as if you were sitting in the car and looking forward. On a MINI GT model, the letters help you choose the interior layout that matches the car or collection you have in mind.

That detail can matter when you collect a particular market version, recreate a car you remember or want both variations of one release. If your display is mainly about the body shape and decoration, decide how much the steering position matters before narrowing your choice.

Find the steering wheel without reversing left and right

A head-on photograph reverses your viewpoint: the car’s right side is on your left. First locate the front of the car, then picture the driver facing forward. This is more reliable than calling whichever side is nearest the camera “the driver’s side.”

Look through the windscreen or side windows for the steering wheel and dashboard. A higher three-quarter view can reveal what a low side photograph hides. Reflections and dark windows can still obscure the interior, so match the visible detail with the exact release’s written steering specification.

The higher view of this R32 gives a clearer look into the cabin. Its MM offer explicitly identifies the model as right-hand drive.

The LHD or RHD label describes the steering position. Working steering, opening doors and other moving features need their own specification; the letters alone do not promise them.

Compare documented versions, including the full item code

MINI GT’s Onyx Black McLaren Senna is a clear example of a release offered in two layouts. The manufacturer identifies MGT00020-L as LHD and MGT00020-R as RHD. The shared number and color are not enough when you want one of those interiors.

Steering choices documented in MINI GT’s catalog
Release Item reference Documented layout
McLaren Senna, Onyx Black MGT00020-L LHD
McLaren Senna, Onyx Black MGT00020-R RHD
Honda Civic Type R FK8, Championship White MGT00001 LHD and RHD versions
Honda Civic Type R FK8, Crystal Black Modulo Edition MGT00011-R RHD only

The two Civics are different releases. A choice documented for the white car does not extend automatically to the black Modulo edition. Use the complete model name, finish and item code to find the version you want, then check its current availability.

Keep other suffixes intact too. MINI GT uses MGT00901-007E for the Thunderball DB5 with English poster packaging; its French, Spanish and Japanese poster versions have different endings. That final letter identifies the packaging language. The steering specification is a separate detail.

Two RHD choices with different display themes

The following MM offers both specify right-hand drive. One suits a modified-car display; the other centers on a film car and its packaging. They are separate models, so compare their complete subjects as well as the position of the steering wheel.

R32 VeilSide Combat C-I · MGT00971

The gray metallic Nissan Skyline GT-R R32 combines VeilSide bodywork, light-colored graphics and a rear wing. The current offer identifies it as a new 1:64 RHD model in blister packaging. Choose this exact release when the modified R32 shape is part of the appeal.

Aston Martin DB5 Thunderball · MGT00901-007E

This Birch Silver 1:64 DB5 is identified as right-hand drive in its MM description. Its rounded body and 007 poster packaging give it a different display theme from the R32. The complete -007E reference matters if you want the English poster design shown here.

A different Nissan is not the other steering version

The Dark Metal Gray NISMO R35 CRS, MGT01089, is a different car from the R32 VeilSide. Its black wheels and body shape make that clear in the comparison photo. The R32 and R35 names describe different vehicles; they do not identify an LHD/RHD pair.

MGT01089 is the R35 CRS release. Compare its body and full item code separately from the steering specification.

The current R35 CRS offer names the finish and item number but does not state the steering position in its written description. If that detail determines your purchase, ask for confirmation of the version being supplied. For a broader body-style comparison, the R32, R33 and R34 guide explains the exact Skyline releases in that selection.

Choose the view and package you want to keep

For a loose display, look for a view that lets you enjoy the interior as well as the body. If the steering wheel is an important part of your collection, a clear cabin photograph is more useful than another side profile. Keep enough room around the model to handle it without catching mirrors or the rear wing.

For a sealed collection, compare the full package and its readable label. You can confirm the code and request a better photograph without opening the blister. If you also want an outer cover, the MINI GT Type A and Type B protector comparison explains why you measure the complete package and usable clearance.

For a gift, ask for the full item code or a photograph of the collector’s box label. A request for a black Senna or silver DB5 leaves more choices open than the model name suggests.

Questions about MINI GT LHD and RHD

Is RHD the right-hand side of the photograph?

Use the car’s right side, viewed as if you were seated inside and facing forward. In a head-on photograph, that side appears on your left.

Does every MINI GT model come in both layouts?

No. The manufacturer documents both layouts for some releases and one layout for others, as the two Civic examples show. Check the exact release rather than assuming the choice applies to every model of the same car.

Does LHD or RHD mean the front wheels steer?

No. The label identifies the steering wheel’s position in the cabin. A working steering mechanism is a separate feature that must be specified for the model.

Should I pay more for a particular steering layout?

Decide whether that layout is part of the version you actually want. Compare the same release, package and condition before comparing prices; an LHD or RHD label alone does not establish rarity or future value.
