Hot Wheels Base Codes and Production Date Guide

What a base code tells you

Modern three-character production codes commonly use a letter for the production year and two digits for the production week. Some plants and product lines use other formats. A production code helps date manufacture, but it does not by itself prove a rare variation.

How to use the code

1. Locate the stamped, printed or laser-etched code on the base or package.
2. Record the complete code exactly.
3. Compare it with the expected release window.
4. Use it to investigate tooling, country or base changes.

Production often begins before the calendar year printed on the card, so an earlier production-year letter can be normal.

Collector warning

Do not assign extra value solely because a date code is early or unusual. The engine requires evidence that collectors distinguish and pay differently for that exact variation.
