Casting History
Casting History
Larry Wood's Custom Volkswagen Beetle debuted in 2007 Ultra Hots as a customized classic split-window Beetle. The initial casting had an opening rear engine cover, which collector references document as removed during the 2008–2009 transition. The early releases here retain the original metal-base/sunroof design. A later 2016 retool introduced a plastic base and closed sunroof with roof rack; those features must not be assigned to these earlier toys.

Custom Volkswagen Beetle — Frequently Asked Questions
Collector FAQs
Which details separate one release from another?
Compare the casting name with the year, toy number, finish, graphics, wheels and package markings shown for that version.
Does the copyright year on the base always match the release year?
No. The base copyright can predate the year a particular color or package appeared. Use the release markings and packaging together.
What should I inspect on a loose example?
Check the paint, printed graphics, wheel faces and base for wear or damage. Those details help compare condition between examples.
What does the carded photograph show?
It documents the package design and the car as sold. Loose-car photos are shown separately when an exact view is available.
