Hot Wheels ’67 Camaro (1998 Edelbrock): Casting Info & Complete Collector’s Guide

Black-and-gold number 13 Trans-Am decoration

The 1998 Edelbrock Special Edition uses the Hot Wheels ’67 Camaro casting to represent the black-and-gold number 13 Trans-Am race car. Its package calls the subject a ’68 Camaro. Reference 20000, the gold roof, red side pinstripe and white number roundel identify this release.

Casting Info

The casting name, race-car subject and toy release year describe different things.

A ’67 casting with a ’68 racing subject

Collectors group reference 20000 under the Hot Wheels ’67 Camaro casting. The card identifies the real racing subject as a 1968 Trans-Am Camaro, while the toy itself is a 1998 Edelbrock release. These names are compatible: the package describes the subject represented by the decoration, and the casting catalog identifies the model used to represent it.

The model has a black body, metallic-gold roof and a narrow red line along the upper side. A black 13 sits within a white circle on the door. Bright wheel centers and white Goodyear tire lettering complete the visible racing appearance.

The card reverse recounts the history of the number 13 Mystery Camaro, describing extensive race preparation and a later restoration associated with Edelbrock. That is historical package text from this release. Its ownership and racing statements should not be treated as a current status report.

Variation Summary

Use the racing number, roof color, tires and package reference together.

Match the black-and-gold 20000 release

Identifier What to compare
Roof and body Metallic-gold roof above black body panels
Side printing Thin red accent and black 13 within a white circle
Tires White Goodyear lettering on black tires
Package front Edelbrock Special Edition and the Trans-Am Camaro subject
Package reverse Reference 20000, 1998 copyright and Made in China

South Texas Diecast records a black China base and Goodyear Real Riders for this release, with number 13 decoration on the sides, hood and trunk. The featured side view clearly shows the door number and tire lettering; it does not provide a clear top or underside view of the actual toy.

Do not use the full-size car photograph printed on the card to infer small details on the model. For a loose example, request separate views of its upper panels, wheel faces and base. A black Camaro with a racing number is not automatically this Edelbrock issue.

Physical Details

The protective case and blister create reflections over the car.

Inspect the roof finish, number printing and tires

The difference between the black body and gold roof is a key identification feature. Check the roof edges, window pillars and wheel arches for paint loss. The red pinstripe is narrow, so small rubbed sections can be easy to miss in a distant photograph.

Inspect the edges of the white number circle and the black 13 for wear. The featured photograph includes glare from both the blister and an extra clear case. Reflections can make black paint look gray or hide marks on the body.

The white Goodyear lettering appears on the tire sidewalls, not the bright wheel centers. On a loose example, compare all four tires for matching lettering, wear and fit. Replacement tires or wheels can alter a model’s appearance without indicating a factory variation.

The actual underside is hidden in these photographs. The black China base identification comes from the casting catalog, supported by the package’s Made in China statement for origin. The images do not independently expose the base finish or its molded text. Cabin color and fine base lettering are therefore not transcribed from this card-front view.

Packaging Details

Separate printed race-car artwork from the model in the lower blister.

The Edelbrock Special Edition card

The blue card has a large Hot Wheels logo above a Special Edition heading and red Edelbrock panel. The Trans-Am Camaro name appears above printed photographs of the racing subject. The small diecast model sits below that artwork in its own clear blister.

The reverse carries a historical account headed with the 1968 number 13 Mystery Camaro subject. Near the bottom it prints reference 20000, a 1998 Mattel copyright and Made in China. It also carries Chevrolet, Hot Wheels and Edelbrock marks and consumer information.

The outer clear shell visible in the gallery is an additional protective case. Do not assume it was supplied with every original release. When comparing sealed examples, distinguish damage to that removable case from creases in the card or separation of the factory blister.

The historical story discusses the full-size race car. Its descriptions of construction, performance and the number of real cars built do not establish the toy’s production quantity. No numbered edition size is assigned to the diecast from that text.

Buying & Value — Collector Reference

Compare the exact Edelbrock issue

Use completed sales for reference 20000 with the same decoration and tires. Separate loose models from sealed cards, and note whether a sale includes only a protective case or additional items. A case alone does not establish that a blister seal is original.

Record black and gold paint condition, number printing, tire lettering and wheel finish. For packaged examples, also record card fading, creases, blister clarity and the seal. Asking prices are not completed-sale evidence. No current price range or production total is assigned here.

Edelbrock Camaro — Collector FAQs

Collector FAQs

Why does this ’67 Camaro guide show a ’68 Camaro card?

The release uses the ’67 Camaro casting to represent a 1968 racing subject. The card names that subject.

When was this Hot Wheels release issued?

It is cataloged as a 1998 Edelbrock release. The matching package also carries a 1998 copyright.

Is the large car image on the card another included model?

No. It is printed race-car artwork. The package contains the one small model in the lower blister.

Does the gallery show the toy’s base?

No. The black China base description is catalog evidence. The reverse confirms Made in China, but does not show the underside itself.

Does the package history state the toy production total?

No. Its historical account concerns the real racing car, not the quantity of diecast models made.
