Identify the actual release
Match the body and base before comparing paint, graphics, wheels, glazing, interior and removable parts. A casting may continue across several years; its original debut date and base copyright do not by themselves date the actual release.
For a loose example, inspect both sides, the front and rear, the underside and all wheels. For a packaged example, compare the car and the package independently, including printing, blister attachment and possible resealing. Record repainting and replacement parts as alterations rather than factory variation evidence.
Use neutral photographs and a casting-specific reference to investigate unusual colors or component combinations. Do not decide rarity, original condition or market value from a single photograph or an old catalog price.
