2009 Hot Wheels Casting List

2009 casting checklist and release references

Annual/reference numbers identify the release record; recolors and different component combinations can share that number. 24 additional or Mystery references are labeled in the table; use the release filter to separate them. A numbered entry is not a current-stock guarantee or a production quantity.

The 2009 numbering and series map

This reference has 190 numbered positions: 42 New Models at #001–042, 12 Treasure Hunt casting positions at #043–054, 12 Track Stars at #055–066, ten ten-car series at #067–166, and 24 Mystery Cars at #167–190. A recolor does not create another numbered position. The segment fraction in the table is not a product code or production total.

The ten-car themes are HW Racing, Muscle Mania, HW Special Features, HW Designs, HW City Works, Heat Fleet, Faster Than Ever, Rebel Rides, Dream Garage and Modified Rides. Those names describe historical factory series, not how a particular secondhand example has been modified. Keep the annual number and segment together in your notes.

Regular Treasure Hunts and Super counterparts

The twelve Treasure Hunt casting positions each have a regular and Super version, so both filters show those same twelve rows. Compare the exact finish, wheels, decoration and packaging before assigning a chase identity. A matching name or a rubber-tire upgrade alone does not identify a factory Super.

Bone Shaker #050: the reference separates the regular metallic-gold-and-black version from its Spectraflame-gold-and-black Super with Real Rider wheels. Keep the two releases distinct even though their broad color descriptions sound similar.

Ford Mustang #043: the regular metallic-red car and the Spectraflame dark-red Super share the casting position. Neither should be confused with 2010 Ford Mustang GT #041, the ’65 Mustang Fastback #085 or the Mustang Mach 1 #144. Browse Mustang models with the generation and release in mind.

Do not impose one paint rule on every Super: the source describes both ’34 Ford #048 versions as metallic black, distinguishes Custom ’53 Chevy #049 by wheels without changing its basic paint description, and lists different metallic shades for GMC Motorhome #053. Match the specific version instead of assuming that a single universal color test settles every car.

Details that help identify the right variation

Datsun Bluebird 510 #037

The New Models reference records a blue version with a different wheel treatment in Target two-packs. Black and copper recolors remain under the same annual position. Do not mistake those records for a later 510 Wagon or assume one blue photograph proves every wheel detail. Shop Datsun models, then compare the individual listing.

Faster Than Ever #127–136

The year reference records two-pack and ten-pack wheel alternatives for several Faster Than Ever subjects, including 2008 Lancer Evolution, Duel Fueler, Lotus Concept, ’09 Corvette ZR1 and Chevy Nova. A different wheel can be a documented package variation rather than an error or aftermarket replacement. Record package context when it is known.

Base-material differences

Midnight Otto #126 and ’32 Ford Vicky #138 have metal- and plastic-base records in the reference. A matching paint color does not identify the full construction variant. Request a clear underside photograph and keep base material separate from the car’s color and condition notes.

Similar names and historical retailer editions

The ’69 Chevelle at #062 is a Track Stars release described with a clear body, while #084 is a Muscle Mania entry. They are not duplicate rows to delete by name. Corvette C6 #003, Corvette C6R #071, ’09 Corvette ZR1 #135 and Corvette Grand Sport #167 likewise require separate identification. Compare the complete body and release evidence.

2009 Nissan GT-R #001 and Nissan Skyline GT-R R32 #156 represent different subjects. A seller’s broad “GT-R” wording is only a starting point. Use the Nissan collection or the individual casting search to narrow the match.

The reference documents selected Walmart, Kmart and Target variants. Those historical notes do not establish present stock, scarcity or value. A retailer name in a listing is not a substitute for visible identifying details. Red-striped wheels on a 2009 release also do not make the car a 1968 original.

Buying, condition and customization

For a loose car, compare both sides, roof, wheels and base. Check paint wear, axle alignment, cracked windows, missing components and any signs of opening or repair. For a carded car, inspect the blister, seal, corners and printed identification as well as the car inside. Keep packaging condition separate from vehicle condition when comparing listings.

A casting name containing “Custom” does not by itself mean that an individual car was modified after manufacture. Conversely, an aftermarket paint job or wheel swap does not create a factory chase. Describe restored and modified cars accurately, and compare the exact release before relying on another sale as a value reference.

Custom wheels, rubber tires and upgrade axles are sold separately. Original included components depend on the individual DIY kit listing. A casting link is not a promise that any wheel set fits it. Current carded cars, loose cars and custom cars have different collecting purposes; choose deliberately.
