2012 Hot Wheels Casting List

Collection links may include other years, brands, scales and custom builds. Every collection-linked casting also has a product search. Check the actual listing for the exact version, condition and availability; this checklist is not an inventory or price list.

2012 mainline checklist: #001–247

Showing all 247 entries.

Why this 2012 checklist ends at #247

The year reference uses 247 numbered positions, not the 250-position pattern of the following year. New Models occupy #001–050, Treasure Hunts #051–065 and Track Stars #066–080. The 22 HW Code Cars at #226–247 close the list. Leaving out invented final numbers is more useful than forcing the year into a later template.

The middle of the checklist separates Muscle Mania into Mopar, GM and Ford groups and places themed Thrill Racers in five-car sets. Race Course, Swamp Rally, Space, City Stunt, Volcano, Beach, Ice, Prehistoric and Earthquake are distinct themes. A “Thrill Racers” label alone does not identify the exact decoration or annual position.

New Models can represent more than road cars

The opening group includes Mars Rover Curiosity #014, The Bat #027, Angry Birds Minion Pig #035 and Red Bird #047, alongside subjects such as BMW M3 GT2 #005, Mazda RX-7 #031 and The Mystery Machine #038. This is a Hot Wheels vehicle-and-character reference, not a promise that every entry is a conventional automobile. The New Models filter follows the source’s 50-position classification.

Collector numbers and vehicle years are different

The 2013 Viper SRT appears at #011 in the 2012 list, and the 2011 Indycar Oval Course Race Car appears at #042. Those vehicle-year names do not move the products into another annual assortment. For a loose example, compare the whole casting and documented decoration; do not infer its release solely from a copyright date on the base or a year in the product title.

Standard versions, Treasure Hunts and Supers

The 15 regular Treasure Hunts form their own numbered group at #051–065. Examples include Ferrari 430 Scuderia #059 and ’92 Ford Mustang #064. The 15 Super counterparts occur at other mainline positions, including Ferrari 599XX #125 and ’71 Maverick Grabber #179. These are different programs and different casting identities; a collector should not combine them into one interchangeable set.

Ferrari 599XX #125

The standard selected code is V5428; its Super counterpart is V5379. The source records a Spectraflame red Super with racing decoration and Real Rider wheels, separate from the regular red release. Compare finish, graphics and wheels together rather than treating every red 599XX as a chase. The Ferrari 430 Scuderia at #059 is the regular Treasure Hunt and has a different body and code. Browse Ferrari models, then check the actual listing’s version.

Honda S2000 #141

The regular selected code V5445 and Super code V5377 belong to HW Performance. Their shared casting name is a starting point, not a complete identification. A factory Super should match the documented finish, decoration and wheels as a combination. A custom wheel swap remains an aftermarket modification. The Honda collection includes related products across releases.

Volkswagen Beetle #151

The Heat Fleet standard V5455 and Super V5380 are distinct versions. The source describes the Super as dark blue; this guide does not impose a universal finish description on every chase. Also keep this casting separate from the newer 2012 Volkswagen Beetle at #024 and Custom Volkswagen Beetle at #176. The three rows are not accidental duplicates. Explore Volkswagen models with the body generation and release in mind.

Special editions and wheel variations need their own notes

The DW-1 Indycar shares #042

The year reference records a Dan Wheldon commemorative DW-1 version under code V5673 at the same annual position as the 2011 Indycar Oval Course Race Car. It should not receive an invented extra number, and its commemorative identity should not be silently added to the 15-Super filter. Record the full version and its package rather than only “Indycar #42.”

Faster Than Ever does not resolve every wheel

Datsun Bluebird 510 #092 has selected code V5398 in Faster Than Ever. The reference also documents a multipack wheel variation under that same code. A second blue release has another code and its own wheel records. A number, color or code can therefore narrow a match without uniquely identifying every car. Clear photographs of all four wheels and the base help prevent the wrong variation being purchased. Browse Datsun models or use the casting search.

A misprinted Thunderbolt card is not a new identity

The pink Ford Thunderbolt retailer version, Y9257, is documented with an erroneous 85/247 card number. The intended Thunderbolt position is #115; ’71 Dodge Charger remains #085. Keep the packaging error as a note rather than replacing the Charger in the annual list.

Repeated names and themed releases

Mitsubishi 2008 Lancer Evolution appears at #158 in Heat Fleet and #188 in Swamp Rally. Hummer H2 appears at #150 in HW Performance and #221 in Earthquake. Their series, decorations and selected product codes differ. Deduplicating by name alone would remove genuine numbered records.

For Code Cars, the number describes a position in a 22-entry segment as well as an annual position. C6 Corvette is #228 overall and the third Code Car; Asphalt Assault is #247 overall and Code Car 22. This guide treats “Code Cars” as the historical series name, not a claim that any original online code service remains available.

Recolors stay under their original number. A retailer edition, wheel change or modified interior can still matter to a variation collector, so preserve those details in your own records. This page intentionally shows selected codes rather than claiming every wheel, card, finish and country combination is fully resolved.

Buying, condition and customization

For a loose car, compare both sides, roof, wheels and base. Check paint wear, axle alignment, cracked windows, missing components and any signs of opening or repair. For a carded car, inspect the blister, seal, corners and printed identification as well as the car inside. Keep packaging condition separate from vehicle condition when comparing listings.

A casting name containing “Custom” does not by itself mean that an individual car was modified after manufacture. Conversely, an aftermarket paint job or wheel swap does not create a factory chase. Describe restored and modified cars accurately, and compare the exact release before relying on another sale as a value reference.

Custom wheels, rubber tires and upgrade axles are sold separately. Original included components depend on the individual DIY kit listing. A casting link is not a promise that any wheel set fits it. Current carded cars, loose cars and custom cars have different collecting purposes; choose deliberately.

Sources and scope

Numbering, series, selected codes and variation examples follow the South Texas Diecast 2012 mainline reference. It ends at #247; no #248–250 placeholders are added. Its “Mainline Limited Edition” releases are identified here as Super counterparts. Premium lines, multipacks, retailer packages and every wheel or paint variation are not claimed as exhaustively catalogued.
